Even though I still rate MMLP2 over Relapse, I think Relapse is more like his old albums, stylistically. He was aligning his bars properly for the most part.

I get what you're saying. To me, Relapse felt like one of his older albums just not as poignant as his first three yet it felt like around that time (I think largely like you said due to the structuring of his bars throughout). But MMLP 2 feels like a really dope new Eminem. Don't know if that makes sense but I'm just trying to say there's a separation between Relapse and Recovery. Everything pre-Recovery for the most part has that original Eminem structure we're used to whereas everything from Recovery on is kind of like a new Eminem with MMLP 2 being a highly improved version of this new Eminem we were introduced to in 2010. Don't know if I'm making sense or not.

For all the Relapse lovers, I found this review of the album when it came out. It praises the album and says it is up their with TES or maybe even better. Gives a cool review.

Singin' "Bagpipes from Baghdad" again
In my dad's drag draggin' a faggot in a Glad bag
Won't be the last time I make a dramatic entrance like that again
You thought I was lyin' when I said I think that I'm crossin' the line again
I've lost my mind, caution oh God I think I've just thought of another fucking line
Forgive me father, for I have sinned
But hip hop has left me brainwashed with a violent streak

Yes, but he was sacrificing a lot for rhyming. Some of Relapse (parts of Stay Wide Awake, particularly) remind me of Tech N9ne's writing. NOWHERE near that bad, but kind of toned down in the same way. Sometimes it feels like he's rhyming for the sake of rhyming.

Just realized that Recovery probably has the least amount of rhyming on an Eminem album post-hiatus

I totally get what youre saying actually haha. I don't really have anything to add other than to say I get what you mean and kind of agree with that to an extent. It feels like Eminem is capable of flowing like he did on Relapse at any time but hes experimenting so much with his flows while pushing his lyricism really far.

I also think the Recovery rhyming is less noticeable because of the delivery.

:b:

Yeah the Recovery rhyming is probably a lot less noticeable because of his delivery. Atm I can't really think of an incredibly lyrical song on Recovery where the rhyming is insane. I'm sure there is one, I just can't think of an example right now.

CWB, On Fire, GTC, No Love, Ridaz, Session One...

He actually rhymes a hell of a lot throughout the album :-k

:y: Those last 2 songs especially combined with his flow are cool af

Baby always seemed like a "Relapse style" throwback to me.

Yeah I got the vibe as well. I kind of site songs like Groundhog Day and Baby as validation of my claim that he can flow smooth as butter at any time he wants to.

its an amazing album for what it is. i think its lack of commercial appeal kills it. i mean even mmlp had commercial appeal and was his biggest seller and most praised. prime em...lyrically, yes i suppose.
