i dont think Em has the capability to be a game changer now. I just want a dope album like Relapse; like a concept album; With full in-house productions, self made hooks and 2 Features.

IWell actually, Em never had the capacity to be a 'game changer' anyway, and he never changed the game, not in the sense that most mean aka influencing other rappers to do shit...

Now, broadly he made rappers step their game up and still does in terms of rhymes and flow, simply so they don't seem so far behind in skill - Em has influenced a lot of recent nikkas we know about with technique such as B.o.B and Kendrick and even with content like Tyler and Hopsin...

But when you think of a game changer like... Kanye's 808s made rappers all start doing that shit, a game changer doesn't have to be good - it can have an effect for the worse, like that did, but still influence on a wide scale... Em has never done that due to the fact he's too niche.

Eminem's subject-matter and style were always too personal and ironic and layered to truly change the game in mass ways, as most nikkas are fucking retards and hop on trends... so Em may have brought more humour or self-awareness in to the game but other than that...

I think Relapse 1 + 2 had the potential to be hugely significant if he simply stuck to his guns though. If he had not compromised R1 with those last 3 bullshit tracks and if he had put out proper visuals to a few more tracks and then really hammered home with R2 and fucked what anyone was saying then... I think post-appreciation would have happened, but the fact he just so quickly hopped trains and dismissed his own work has forever doomed the shit to be seen as a failure.

My friend has recently said Relapse has become maybe his favourite Em album now too, and he's a big Em fan like me, not as big but he liked his first three a lot and he admitted he looked over it. Nikkas need to open their ears more and listen to what's coming out dey shit yo.

But if you mean he doesn't have the potential to create something truly original and which pushes the envelope out... I disagree with you there. I think after the scope of Kanye... musically, that... he may struggle in that vein, as his beats may simply be too limited and if he tries to just mimic grandiosity with more noise, it'll just turn out like 'our house', which is just a mess... but Em always has the ability to create a masterpiece, when you look at shit even like "Space Bound"... it gets overlooked because we're used to his emotional intensity but look at the ridiculous tracks like "Runaway" that Kanye makes that get praised as genius lmao, like, people are so used to Em's intensity but when you truly compare those, Em's lyricism and energy and precision and how dramatic and tense he makes it all... it's on another level. He always has the ability, question is how far will he push it now...

We're gonna be in July tomorrow and we still know nothing about the album. Damn it, I love the silence to be honest.

I agree with EmBase, Eminem never really changed the game. He started a new era in Hip-Hop and other rappers realized that they needed to step their game up if they wanted to stay relevant. Em of course did open the door for other white rappers to be recognized and given a chance.

So baby make just like K-Fed and let yourself go, let yourself go
Say fuck it before we kick the bucket

Em didn't change the game? Oh please.
He opened the gates for white rappers. Isn't this game changing?

Em as a white rapper blowing up, becoming a relevant and respected figure in hip hop is a game changing event in itself.

What a load of crap.

Before Eminem, what notable rappers helped bring predominantly white (middle/poorer/lower class) views into the rap sphere? At its emotional best, Eminem's early music was poignant; relatable and almost tangible in its brutal honesty, his music opened new grounds with regards to pushing the art of rap into new territory, away from its gangster-association.

No one was making songs like Kim, 97 Bonnie and Clyde or Stan. No white rapper had made the grounds Em did, popularising white views in a credible way.

It is utterly ridiculous to say that Em has not been a game danger. Of course he has. His singles may have been a breath of fresh air, but his album content was new, vivid and enticing. Without Em the rap game could have fallen into a repetitive path. He really catalysed it to enter new territory; albeit contributing to its almost immediate regression with his own move to gangster-rap.

In the same way that Kanye changed the game with his soulful take, Em changed the game with his own unique, predominantly white stance which appealed to a new audience.
"Oh, he'll give us what we need.
It may not be what we want."

Em didn't open no doors for white rappers. What about Beastie Boys, Cage, Copywrite of MHz, Mr. Eon of High N Mighty, Apathy (then known as the Alien Tounge), El-P of Company Flow, Esoteric, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere.......................

Em KIND OF brought hip-hop to the mainstream crowd (there where no 13 year old white, rich, girls listening to hip-hop before Em came along) but he never opend any doors to any white rapper.

In the same way that Kanye changed the game with his soulful take

Hip-hop producers have been sampeling soul scence the 80s.

Em did open doors for white rappes. He opened the doors to the possibility of the quotation of others white rappers amongst the black ones. Beastie Boys did nothing in terms of that. Cage did nothing, neither did others in your list. Eminem showed that white people can do this music and have good sales. He showed that white people can also feel this music as listeners. But the most important thing - he showed that white people can RAP AWESOME too. Thats why nowadays nobody gives a fuck either you are white or black if you can spit.

"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

I wouldn't call Underground a bullshit track.... ;)

I would.

Not bullshit in that it's compromised but I seriously reckon he made it last to go out on, to compensate the prior to bullshit tracks / not end on those / round off the album.

As "Underground" has a Recovery-ish flow / singing to it / doesn't actually sound like the rest of Relapse, the only thing which does is the content (or, some kind of vague mention of all the pills and serial-killerish shit) - the production doesn't even sound the same... all these signs point to it being made separately as a tactical track rather than an organic part of the batch.

All the other tracks up until and including "Deja Vu" sound like a family, like they were organic.
