Well it's not really fantasy music...
That's partially why The Marshall Mathers LP is so brilliant, because he treads that line so carefully. "Kim" for example is a fantasy in terms of its concept yet its execution is SO realistic and he's setting scenes in each verse, like a screenwriter in a movie... the dialogue is the lyrics and yet it's not... contrived; it sounds like you're 'listening in' to this event, it feels LIVE, even to this day.
And that's what makes the entire album so compelling; that style and that blur of macabre, humour, personal struggle and reality, personal fantasy... it's a complex blend and it's extremely well-done. And he pretty much tries to do it on all his albums to a degree but on none is it so well done than The Marshall Mathers LP, it's like a documentary of madness.
It's as realistic and down to earth as it is on another planet and psychotic.
I like compelling material. And The Marshall Mathers LP is compelling, and thrilling.
