I actually read an article the other day that said leaks help already established artists sales wise, by a few hundred thousand copies.

Makes sense when you think about it. The hardcore loyal fans will buy it regardless, the haters won't buy it regardless. The borderlines will depending on the quality. It's no different than going to a friend's house to hear it or hearing it in their car and saying "hmm, i have to check that out."

Stats continue to show if something is good, people will buy it, regardless of leaks.

Exactly. An album leaking could help your sales if your product is great. People WILL be more inclined to buy it if they honestly support you and love the music. Those who won't buy probably never would've intended on it anyway, and people will illegally download the music, leak or no leak. That's why labels do iTunes streams now, because it's probably one of the best promo tactics they can use. If they stream the album, that means they're extremely confident in the product they're selling to the consumers, like The 20/20 Experience Part I and II, Channel Orange (if I remember correctly) and Bangerz (Not great, but it's radioactive.. and I guess that was their aim) to name a few examples. Look at Macklemore's The Heist album. Independent and he's on his way to sell a Milli if he hasn't already. Make an amazing product, and people will be more likely to pay for it. Promo tactics vary from artist to artist, but that's for another post.

Exactly. I think I wrote about the itunes thing before. They do the whole streaming thing a week before and it works. I loved Futuresex but was ehh on Suit And Tie, so I wasn't convinced. Saw the stream on itunes and decided to give it a chance. Enjoyed it and bought the album.

Streams like that are the way of the future. Because it's more accessible. Instead of feeling nervous about downloading a file illegally, or not even being savvy enough to know where to find the leak, it's right there for you on a safe site. And now itunes allows it on the phone so you can play it in the car or outside somewhere.

Hey, if it wasn't for streams (netflix) I would have never watched Breaking Bad one boring summer night last year. The rest is history. I caught up, followed the show till the end, and am on the verge of dropping $200 on the barrel set as a bday gift to myself. The streams are still on netflix, and I'm sure at some point they'll have all 5 seasons, but the product was too good for me to not show my support financially.

If your product is good, people will buy.
