Artists shouldn't communicate at all with or care about fans IMO; care about people who support you but, they didn't really choose to, nobody chooses what they are, how they think and where they grow up; who they naturally like and who they will want to buy an album of, and will or won't...

and, the reason I think it's a bad idea for good artists to focus on THE fans is because artists seem to place the fans in a time freeze as much as fans do to artists... as in, Em comes back out trying to guess at what he thinks his 'fans' want... trying to please an imaginary demographic of idealistic taste is so stupid. People change, people can be convinced to like things they thought they wouldn't...

And their fans grow up... your fans are just people who happen to support you in that moment, so if your 'old fans' don't like what you currently do, but YOU do as an artist... the 'old' fans are simply not fans now, the people who like your new stuff are because they are in-tune with it. I wish Em thought like this and 'whoever likes it likes it' rather than trying to provide something specific... for this giant imagination he's trying to pander to as his fanbase...

That's what leads to confused efforts and big compromises COUGHRECOVERYAHHHHAJHS.
