I can appreciate Relapse for its technical skill but putting out Relapse 2 would have buried his career commercially.
Not only can't it not get spins on radio for it's content, but coming from the type of songs he made on Eminem Show, to revert back to shock rap, violent imagery, celebrity name drops -- with a weird accent, for TWO straight albums would have been absolutely too much.
I think he found a nice medium with Refill. Sort of like a Relapse 1.5
The hardcore stans can enjoy Relapse and Refill, and he can put out Recovery for the people who appreciate his more mature records.
Recovery, obviously having a double meaning. Recovering from addiction and recovering his name and place in the game after having it tarnished.

I loved it. I can understand some fans not liking it but even the most hardcore Relapse stan can objectively admit two straight albums of that kind of material would have done more harm than good for his career. Hell, as versatile as he is, two straight albums of the same sound would be bad no matter what.
