Because Kanye has done a fantastic job of not being a dick about things so far.

Kanye is suddenly the voice of reason?
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Jay Elec, you know what to do.

Lmao word. Would be a great battle tbh or Lupe

Think about it, the few times since his comeback he has shown true annoyance/anger is when something related to his legacy/image has been threatened.

As any great rapper who's under fire should. Not sneak diss through interviews and send subliminal shots in songs then cop pleas when someone asks you about those lines. Naw. They enough balls to write it, they had enough balls to record it and put it out there, so they should have enough balls to own up to it. But I guess everyone's more concerned about getting their checks these days more than the sport in itself. All these rappers claim they're the best out yet nobody fights for it. That's why when Kendrick dropped Control, it caused such a shitstorm cause everyone's on their friendly shit. Which is cool, since pointless beef leaves nothing to be desired.. but you need competition in Hip-Hop, that's what it's based on. It's like there's an elephant in the room and nobody wants to say shit about it, but if you do, you're targeted. If that's the case, then nobody should say shit if a rapper comes in and proves himself... everyone would be too scared to even look at him.

Horse wrote:xxl's ratings are a joke. i don't believe mmlp2 deserves the full xxl for lyrics, but it's miles ahead of mchg and even as a huge kanye stan, i think it's lyrically superior to yeezus as well. yeezus is the better album imo, but lyricism wasn't the focus of yeezus, whereas some mmlp2 tracks are extremely lyrical.

Some?... All of them.

If a mainstream, or fuck it; hip-hop album period (so many underground lyricists are lame as fuck and people act like they're better just because, but if they got big they'd dog them fully lmao) deserves an XXL for lyrics... it would be MMLP2.

I mean something like ''Rhyme or Reason''? the lyricism is impeccable, or ''Rap God''?... to give Rick Ross lyrics XXL and Rap God lyrics XL is beyond absurd. Em's lyricism on MMLP is top fucking shelf; even on his weaker days he's so much more complex and layered - the mixture of like 100 different shades of a psyche and blending of self-analysis and introspection and social commentary line to line is unlike any other. And that's without even going in to the amazing technical aspects.

PS. I cannot believe XXL rated Yeezus XXL... are you fucking kidding me? Even if you rate it as that for beats and originality - LYRICALLY: XXL!!? What in the fuck. Everybody has lost their mind on the Kanye shit now. As a Kanye fan - the lyricism was mostly shit on Yeezus. Catchy in places, the odd thought-provoking line... but that's it. Mostly shit and babble, written badly.

Rap God >> Yeezus. 10000%.

Wait, they gave Yeezus an XXL for lyrics?
Why am I not surprised?
The production on STIW is beautiful, btw.

I doubt Kanye would do this, considering Yeezus apparently wasn't made for the general audience. But see this is what 50 meant when he said Em is underrated in terms of respect from his peers. Either they're shook of him or they try to ignore him. Reminds me of what Royce said last year too.

"Know that he's not quiet for nothing. If he's quiet… worry. Marshall is like that fucking huge spider on the floor and you wanna act like you not scared of it. And you're really not that scared of it as long as it's in your plain view but if you look away and it disappears oh you petrified, that's Marshall. That's Marshall and the petrified people are the rappers because you know he's not going to come back with nothing but something that’s going to make you second guess what you're doing."

One of the most moronic misconceptions people have is that Eminem is now "phoning it in" and not even trying anymore. These people have to have severe brain damage.

Fuck that's so damn true, especially when you look at what ends up happening with "Rap God" and MMLP2.

When Rap God dropped, everyone in the industry was like :o :o :o :flutter: :worship: :worship: :worship: so Shady Records and other rappers knows wassup. People also might not reference him mainly cause he's ghost all the time unlike Jay Z where you see him court-side at basketball games and in the public eye a lot. Maybe if we saw him more often doing regular shit people would start talking about him more.

I mean, ask most New Generation rappers on their thoughts on Eminem and they'll tell you how much of a legend he is. I wouldn't worry about rappers not liking him, cause as sure as water is wet, a good majority of them wouldn't dare take shots at Slim.

"ill probably never get the props i feel ever deserve" pretty much embodies what iv read the past few pages about critics, and its disappointing that critics can be that dense.

I read an interesting article on Complex though, and im sure a lot of you have seen it too. The level of effort and lyricism on mmlp2 is amazing, and certain critics inability to recognize the talent of it, speaks more to the irrelevancy of said critics than Eminems music.

I think a huge problem, is that when someone doesnt like something sonically or the subject matter, it can easily taint how they view the lyrics, they can almost become "bad" because they simply cease to hear the complexity in the lyrics anymore.

At the end of the day a critic is a regular person who gets to publish there opinions in an article. And honestly how many times do you think the reviewer from XXL really listened to the album, maybe one time through? youre not gonna catch all the internal rhyming, metaphors etc. the first time listening or even the second. So i feel they heard Yeezus and MCHG and assumed it was better because they understood/caught more of the lyrics. It really sucks when you see people get respect they dont deserve and vice versa, hopefully that changes.
