Would this 8 Mile/Encore Mix be a classic?

Postby Hopsinshadie » Sep 24th, '13, 04:07

Most people agree that Em's first 3 albums were a classic. Most people believe that Encore was anything but a classic. But some of Emimem's best work came after TES, which was the 8 mile era. I would have loved to hear what a full 8 Mile LP would have sounded like. Now as far as Encore, it's biggest weakness was it's horrific songs and the fact that 3 of his songs leaked. But if we added some songs from his bonus cd, 8 mile, and took out a few from Encore, how would a cd like this go against his classics?? I'd put it on or near the same level. Some songs might not fit with each other, but it'd still be very good. At least a better version of Recovery imo.

We As Americans
Never Enough
Yellow Brick Road
Love You More
Toy Soldiers
8 Mile Road
Run Rabbit Run
Ricky Tic Toc
Love Me
Lose Yourself
Crazy In Love (or You Don't Know)
Spend Some Time
Mockingbird
Encore or replace with (Maybe No Apologies)

Bonus cd: Just Lose It, Evil Deeds, My First Single

Why not? There's no way it isn't at least better than Relapse or Recovery if you really r a fan

And No Apologies should definitely be included IMO.

Yea. I wonder if Encore should still be in it.

But at the end of the day, they're are way more classic songs here than on Relapse. I mean Lose Yourself, 8 Mile Road, No Apologies, and Rabbit Run alone are way better than anything on Relapse.

I hate to admit it, but I think people give Relapse way too much credit, only because we really want to believe that he made such a big comeback. But imo the reality is that it's not really the case. There is no way that this track selection does not blow Relapse away.

Not a chance. I think the word "classic" gets thrown around to much. MMLP, being a classic, is full of 10/10 songs aswell at TES. I don't even think Relapse was a classic, very good but not classic. An album won't be considered classic unless it's full of 10/10 songs and the only 10/10 songs on that list are Like Toy Soldiers, 8 Mile Road and Lose Yourself. The rest are good songs, but not classic quality.

Also, I would probably replace a couple songs with No Apologies, You Don't Know and Evil Deeds.
If you had one shot, or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted, would you capture it? Or just let it slip?

Could do without the bonus CD but You Don't Know fucking sucks. I think I last listened to that song in like 2007.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Just because you throw in some classics songs doesn't make it a classic. An album imo, has to be cohesive and shit. And besides, you put Never Enough and YBR on there so it's never gonna be a classic.

Eh it's just a collection of good songs. Would be as big a mess as Recovery. I'm tired of these threads though, I hate them...who cares what could have been? What matters is what has happened.

Was Encore bad in some aspects? Of course, I'm not stupid enough to not recognize. Let's just say it was a very disappointing album and took me years to like it, but I always listened to it. It gradually got better

Without contradicting myself...

Encore= Best, most classic bad album ever
Recovery, Relapse= Bad albums that are good

Oh and go Jesse
