Alright so i'm high, but bear with me. Hopefully Trex isn't right and my brain cells aren't completely destroyed yet.
So he came out with Relapse, which was obviously crazy rhyming, syllables, blah blah blah. The amount of rhyming on this album was insane, and despite the questionable content/accent, it was clear that Em's rhyming was nuts.
Then comes Recovery. I think we can all safely say the pure attention to detail and rhyming that was applied to making Relapse was lost on this album. In fact, we saw Em sounding pretty awkward at times lyrically, which is a rare occurrence. What the fuck happened during the times between Relapse and Recovery?
But then the most curious part is then comes along MMLP2 which we can all admit is top-notch lyricism in just about every song. Em is so much less awkward than he was on Recovery, and although the content was quite different from that of the serial killing/rape/prescription drugs on Relapse, the focus on rhyming and really the art of MCing is much more emphasized. It really is like a merging of Relapse's lyricism with Recovery's focus on personal content.
I hate to say that Em intentionally dumbed it down just to make up for Relapse's lukewarm reception (even though in reality it's a fucking bawse album,) but considering the awkwardness of Recovery sandwiched between the precise execution of Relapse and MMLP2, it's hard to believe there's any other explanations.
