Paul's Interview: I need an explanation

I don't understand this part of the interview: "Marshall’s always said that if [he] ever does decide that [he] doesn’t wanna be in the front, then [he's] going to definitely always sort of focus on producing and releasing music. And don’t make that sound like he’s doing that now, because he’s not. "

Can you explain the meaning in simple words of these sentences?
What does it mean "to be in the front"?

If Em ever wanted to stop making music/performing, then he would still be producing and releasing music. Basically, even when he's not a big shot artist anymore, he'll always be working on something.
