I like it. It's a lot of fun to blast and the way it changes and progresses throughout the song brings a lot of energy and keeps it from getting boring. He flows flawlessly all over each part of it.

Snakebeast wrote:The point of the minimalist beat and hook was to put the focus of the listener on the lyrics and flow. Rap God accomplished that perfectly, with certain parts changing to fit with Em's tone or what he's saying at the time. It's supposed to be stripped down and simple, with an easy to follow tune that works as a bland canvas for Eminem to paint his lyrics on.

Agree about Rap God.

Also, it's the artist's vision how an album or the songs turn out. I might be upset with some of the decisions (I wish Survival wasn't there on the album, for example), but I don't think I would want to replace the song with a new version or change the tracklist. But that's my personal preference, others may want to experiment, of course!

Don't you think the flow of the album (placement of the tracks -- switch in topics from song-to-song as well as sonically) would be hurt by this?

There seem to be a bunch of mini-stories here and there, like:
Determination to make it (Survival) --> Telling the story of gaining confidence and fame (Legacy) --> Criticisms and reaction to the fame (Asshole)

Take it back to the old days (Berzerk) --> Pay homage to your influences, career autobiography (Rap God)

Serious attitude to fame (The monster) --> Light-hearted attitude (So Far)

Apology and forgiveness towards his mom (Headlights) --> Owning his words (Evil Twin)

I'm not saying everything is telling a story, but I would hate to mess with the transition. Moreover, some songs have a lot of significance, given that it is a revisit. STIW --> Kim, BG --> Stan (Duh!), RoR --> Kill You (in terms of "hatred" being sprayed around). And sonically the transitions are fine, but I know many here are not happy with it.

And no, you're not the only one who likes Asshole as is.

Big fucking stretch tbh

You could be right. I don't know if Em placed these songs in this way for a specific reason -- but certain sequences of songs seem to be addressing related issues (maybe "story" is too strong a word). But we have to at least agree that he wanted these specific songs for a reason -- he wanted it to be a revisit and wanted to address certain specific topics (because he said it himself). The rest is ... maybe we should stop looking for a reason that ain't there :o !

i love everything about it but the lyrics themselves :-k the beat is too big for them, with the war trumpets and shit he should've come a lot harder. maybe if he made rap god's lyrics mold to asshole's beat :o and vise versa

Most of these songs are fine as they are, its pointless to hear Bad Guy over a 14 year old instumental.

Would be interesting if you added your own, unique production to songs like Asshole and Rap God that cohesively fit the flow of the album, but what you're doing is basically making your version of a Dedication tape with overused and just plain old beats.

Nowhere near a "certified classic"

What do people think of Bad Guy Part 2 on Still D.R.E.

No offense but that would be dumb and it wouldn't sound good at all.
