Introducing MMLP 2.1

Postby Kali » Oct 20th, '14, 00:47

If you are like me, and you probably are: you feel that the production on songs like Asshole and Rap God drastically bring down these otherwise classics. Am I right? You probably feel like Baby and Groundhog Day should replace The Monster and Survival, amirite?
You wish Eminem did his own production, or Dre did production on this epic album. You probably wish Bad Guy closed the album, or at least the epilogue.
Great.

Here's what this project is:
The re-mastering, re-producing, and re-arranging of the original MMLP 2 to bring you MMLP 2.1 - a certified classic.

What I need from you guys:
*Beat suggestions (What songs should we put with what classic beats? Bad Guy part 1 on Stan, etc.)
*Acapellas (If you have or know of any acapella MMLP2 floating around, that will seriously speed up the time of the project, rather than having to do lesser DIY Acapellas)
*Arrangement suggestions (What should the official MMLP 2.1 tracklist look like?)

Updates will be posted as they happen.

Task One: Bad Guy HQ Acapellas

The Bad Guy epilogue wouldn't really make sense as a closing. The final line is "As we pick up where the last Mathers left off".

This.

Also the Rap God instrumental is fine.

I'm legit doing this. I've been using the cancel out method in audacity to test it out to surprisingly great results.
What do people think of Bad Guy Part 2 on Still D.R.E.
Oh, and for the epilogue being the last track, that's a good point, but we can all work out a tracklist.

Yeah, I will. I've done Asshole and Bad Guy so far, and Bad Guy turned out great, but Asshole sounds like shit, gonna have to play around with the settings for the tracks to get them near studio quality.

It is, it fits the mood of the song perfectly. The only beat that I feel could improve the song dramatically by changing it is Asshole. Bad Guys beat fits the tone of the song perfectly, I don't see why it really needs changing.

It's kinda subjective at this point as to whether or not a song's beat needs to be changed

I actually considered doing this sort of thing with Recovery, then realised it would be a complete waste of time which I don't have a lot of these days.

So, um... good luck.

The point of the minimalist beat and hook was to put the focus of the listener on the lyrics and flow. Rap God accomplished that perfectly, with certain parts changing to fit with Em's tone or what he's saying at the time. It's supposed to be stripped down and simple, with an easy to follow tune that works as a bland canvas for Eminem to paint his lyrics on.
