After years of being in seclusion in an effort to live a normal life after a scandal rocked her world, Monica Lewinsky made a public appearance at the Forbes’ inaugural 30 Under 30 Summit in Philadelphia to launch her campaign to fight cyberbullying.
In a speech titled “Monica Lewinsky and the Internet’s Reputation Shredder,” the 41-year-old former White House intern recalls the pain and turmoil she suffered after her sexual tryst with then-President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s.
“I was Patient Zero,” said Lewinsky, to a room full of young soon-to-be achievers at the event. “The first person to have their reputation completely destroyed worldwide via the Internet.”
During her speech, Lewinsky also thanked several artists — including Beyonce, Eminem and G-Eazy — for making lyrical references to the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal.
“You are an audience of young super achievers, on average probably fifteen years younger than me. Lucky, lucky you. And your youth is one of the reasons I wanted to talk to you,” she said. “It does mean, though, that some of you will be asking: ‘Who the hell is she, this Monica?’ ‘and what is she doing here?’ and maybe even…’What is she doing in all those rap lyrics?’”
“Thank you, Beyonce and Eminem. And Nicki Minaj… Kid Cudi, Lil B and Lil Wayne, and of course G-Eazy and let’s not forget Jeezy, and all the rest.”
Queen Bey notably referenced the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal on her hit song ‘Partition,’ singing, “Oh he so horny, yeah he want to f— / He popped all my buttons, and he ripped my blouse / He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown.”
On ‘Rap God,’ Eminem raps, “Got a fat knot from that rap profit / Made a livin’ and a killin’ off it / Ever since Bill Clinton was still in office / With Monica Lewinsky feeling on his, nutsack.”
“She call herself Lewinsky, that mean she give brain / She tryna be like Lil’ Kim, her picture looks the same,” rhymes Nicki Minaj on ‘Still I Rise.’
