Considering how many times he's talked about how all of it is tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic in songs and interviews by now it would be pretty ridiculous if he was still ensuring everyone understood the context these days.

It was more explicitly clear in some of the earlier uses because there was actually a curiosity as to whether or not he meant it. Most of the non-idiots already understand what was in question back then so he doesn't have to care about letting people know what he means by it today.
