Well he's not that commercial. He's more grimey.

And slightly commercial UK Grime is way better than commercial US hip-hop. There's still skill involved and the artists are more witty. Notice his continuous rhyme scheme still.

LOLL.

"Pass Out" is obviously a commercial song, its pop music. Its not grime in any shape, size or form. The beat is good, but its never a grime beat in a million years lmao, grime = 140bpm, mad, hype, hard, greezy - this isn't. 12 year old girls dance to this shit, its "un-threatening", its "clean", and its been #1 in the UK charts for 2 weeks now. = commercial

Well notice I did say 'it's more grimey', I didn't say it was grime. But it's more grime than pop. Of course it's not hardcore grime, hardcore grime still can't succeed commercially yet.

It's not however pop music either, there's a lot of grey in between. It's not just GRIME OR POP. Or HARDCORE OR POP. Elements of the lyricism and themes there are more grime than they are pop.

Just because something is un-threatening doesn't mean it's not grime or it's automatically pop either. You don't have to be spitting about shooting people in the endz or dealing crack just to not be pop that's ridiculous.

Also being #1 doesn't mean it's = COMMERCIAL either. Technically it is because it's popular but so what, Eminem's music, "Without Me" for example reached #2 on the Billboard 100 back in 2002 and "Lose Yourself" reached #1 Worldwide but neither of those songs are pop. They're hip-hop.

All UK artists have to seel out in some way to make it big commerically.

I'm not a fan of Uk Hip Hop anyway but the poppy stuff is just horrible.

Dizzee, Kano, Sway were all artists I enjoyed listening to before they went there commerical ways. I understand it, but it's just frustrating.

Especially Dizzee, I mean now he's saying things like "My early stuff encouraged kids to do bad things" etc. When he and everyone knows thats total bullshit. Kids dont do things because they hear it a CD. Adults are naive if they think people take what they hear on a record seriously.

A lot of my mates listen to grime and I try to tell them how much better American hip hop is but they wont listen. To me it just sounds like there trying to hard to spit as fast as possible and get as much 'shanks', 'bluds' and 'pussy's in as possible.

Yeah well Dizzee has admitted he sold out anyway. He said that it's the only way he can get bigger now and he just wants to master the music like Bruce Lee but he's just gonna make popular music etc. too.

Wiley said not to buy his last album too because he lost creative control.

We're seeing a spazm between the grime artists and record companies. The labels are idiots though, you only have to look at Eminem to see people are dying for artistic freedom and not popular nonsense.

If they let the artists go all-out as themselves, they'd have many more Eminem's on their hands and far less fucking pop-acts who are here today, gone tomorrow. Just going for the quick buck all the time.
