I've posted about this album (Black on Both Sides) by Mos before definitely but don't think I've posted about this track specifically.

I was just banging it out again. It's such a classic track.

Mos Def - Speed Law

For 1999 too. Really feels ahead of its time this track. In terms of the flow and rhythm. It's so assured and out of this world. He's the only rapper I ever listened to first time and had that 'Em feeling' about along with B.o.B recently actually.

Where I feel... If he had just kept improving he could of made much more of a mark. I mean his debut is a straight classic to me. But then his next two were more like blurs of sound. Especially The New Danger. He went from this - Hardcore, solid, rock-fueld, old-school... Brain-banging hip-hop to sort of... Half-singing and mumbling and dragging out words with bongo drums thinking it was art.

His latest is much better. And actually pretty amazing in itself. I do like the fact he tries to sound so drastically different each time like Em. But he's not improved on this album IMO.

Oh wow really. I love almost every track on Black on Both Sides. It's one of the few true 'top-to-start' out and out classics in hip-hop to me. I mean even Illmatic. I love Illmatic but I don't love all the tracks and still skip some you know.

His next two albums after this you should get you know just to listen to what he's done. But IMO they're pieces of shit in comparison to his debut. The Ecstatic is much better.

This track, "Mathematics", "New World Water" and a few others are truly amazing though. As is "Rock n Roll" despite its inherent racism lmao. I mean I do get a little sick of his bigotry now n then but he's so good musically I can see past it.

That's what sort of annoys me about people like him though. Type of people to jump on a white rapper saying 'the n word' I hate even typing that, ridiculous but this board bans it :S absurd. Anyway, but they're the type of people that would boycott a white artist for something like that lmao.

Where as he and a few others are blatantly racist fuckers and they just think they aren't because the situation is reversed but many see past it. Whatever anyway, lmao, always get onto racism when speaking about Mos.

And the whole racism thing, I cant really make a judgement considering I haven't heard much of Mos. But I see racism just like any other prejudice, like taking the piss outta gingers or women or ugly people or whatever. I grew up in a multi cultural area and I've had a bit of racism directed towards me but I just laugh it off, the same way if someone said your ugly or your clothes are crap lmao. Obviously if its the other way its different but I could spend all day talking about this and this is really the wrong section...

Such as... Throughout the entire song "Rock n Roll" he mentions a white rock act (The Stones, Elvis) and proceeds to 'educate' the listener on why they didn't originate what they do, assign a black counterpart and basically imply the white stole from the black.

He spends most of his album time trying to exaggerate black influence, denounce all white influence and... Separate the two like a good / evil rivalry. It's this type of contrived nonsense which Lous Farraaahhh whatever the fuck the racist prick's name is spreads in his little manifesto. Dangerous crap.

I mean can you imagine it reversed? Lmao. 2Pac had the same attitude and Nas has peddled the same bigotry here and there. They're seriously confused assholes who think they're righteous. Aside from that, great lyricists and very talented men though. Just wish they'd drop the bullshit and wise-up.
