An Epiphany

Postby Jaz » Jun 9th, '10, 21:02

Okay.. So this has been dwelling in my mind for some time now, sort of since the release of my first mixtape.

I was thinking about why I make music one day, and it hit me.

First off, the answer to that question I was asking myself was already clear, but it led to the epiphany. I make music for me. I make music because it feels good, and it feels good when my music makes other people feel good. I make music for that feeling you get when your song comes to and end, and people just look over like 'holy shit, you made that?' I make music because it's fun. I make music because even if no one ever gets them, the deep-rooted metaphors and wordplay you use will make you feel good anyway.

And that got me to thinking about the differences between mainstream and underground music, and why so many people on either side of that fence have so much animosity toward the other. It never occured to me that maybe Gucci Mane is just having fun. Maybe he isn't as talented as I think you should have to be in order to be that famous, but nonetheless he could be having fun. He could be searching for those same feelings I get… and the same goes for any other artist. Now if said artist brought into a battle type situation, that's something totally different. If an artist who clearly isn't that great were to bring it to a 'I'm better than you' type statement, then they deserve the hate that would bring on, but I'm sure when Gucci goes to the club and hear's his own shit bumping, he feels great.

And with that I have my epiphany. And so as little as it means, Gucci, Soulja Boy, and all other artists alike now have my blessing. Don't let the hatred knock ya'll down.

Stay up,
Jaz

I feel the same way about music. To me its worth every minute you take to record, mix, and master everything cause when people listen to it and tell you how much they enjoyed it, their favorite parts, and ask when a album n stuff come out it just makes you feel good that not only you are happy with your music but other people enjoy it as well, which only makes you want to do it more.

As far as Gucci, Soulja boy, Waka flocka, n all them it just seems like they're only about the money. I mean its fine if you want to make money off of rapping but there should at least be a decent amount of effort put into the lyrics if rap is what you plan to do with your life. I even recall Waka (w/e the fuck his name his) sayin shit about how rappers that go lyrical don't make money, which for the most part is sadly true, but only goes to prove what he's really in it for.

But yeah, great post man :y:

I would definitely see it differently for a blatant disrespect of the music and the work it takes to make a song that gives you that feeling, but for anyone who doesn't make that clear I have no reason to judge their view on it until they make a point of letting us know.

So yes, I agree with you for the most part.
