Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek - Revolutions Per Minute

Postby MikeNUFC » Jul 1st, '10, 16:42

So finally got round to downloading and listening to this and I it's a fantastic album - real good.

After the instant classic that was Train Of Thought I struggled to find any reason that would show they could get anywhere near that again. Then I downloaded the Re:Union mixtape last year and was shocked at how good it was. Kweli was spitting fire.

This only got my hopes up and I wasn't dissapointed. Start to finish quality production-wise - this is world class - always been a fan of Tek's production but he out-does himself on this.

The features are perfect - theres a show-stopping verse from J. Cole on Just Begun.

Of course, this isn't as good as Train Of Thought - I wasn't expecting it to be - but for veteran artists, long into their career they produce a really great album, despite a few fillers.

It's great to see veteran artists, such as Kweli, Nas, Eminem and Big Boi, making fantastic music and rapping better than you think they still could.

^ Yeah I was going to say that, we've got a lot of good releases. 2010 so far has been a good year for hip hop.

After hearing The Re:Union I couldn't wait to hear Revolutions Per Minute, that mixtape was on constant repeat for me. When RPMs finally came out it didn't disappoint for sure. I wasn't expecting it to be like Train Of Thought either, I was just expecting a solid album which would please the fans. Talib Kweli is just great, his lyrics always feel inspiring to me. Hi-Tek does most of the production just as well as he usually does. Even the beat he uses for the intro I really seem to like. Songs such as City Playgrounds and Ballad of the Black Gold I love so much, the beats are melancholic on those and fit perfectly. Overall it's just a great album.
