Atmosphere

Postby shadyboymez » Jan 9th, '11, 20:43

Atmosphere has always been some really inspirational music to me, mostly their earlier work (97-2003) but i feel like they never get the accolades they truly deserve. Talk about putting emotion into a song and connecting with the listener, Atmosphere can do this better than just about anyone. Slug is the rapper in Atmosphere, and i feel he is one of the hugely unheralded talents in the rap game. Being an underground staple since the 90's, this guy needs to get more props for all that he's done, and all the good music he's been a part of. Atmosphere proves that rap=rhythmic assisted poetry

if any of you have never given their music a chance, here are some favorite tracks by Atmosphere

Tears for the Sheep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AEcgwTZU8Y
Always Coming Back Home To You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESTSTSNwzQA
A Song About A Friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lLpJFUD194

Hesky wrote:The only Atmosphere album i have is 'You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having.' Some dope tracks on there. I wasn't too keen on When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold.

Brother Ali is my favourite artist on Rhymesayers.

You definitely gotta check out the earlier stuff. Headshots: Se7en (http://www.mediafire.com/?yz0tmzmzd1m) is a great collection of early tracks, as well as Sad Clown Bad Dub 1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?yz0tmzmzd1m) & 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?ddzoqa4ivtd)

God Loves Ugly (http://www.mediafire.com/?ddzoqa4ivtd) is my favorite Atmosphere album though

No, Lello is right.
I'm a huge Atmosphere fan.
Definitely one of the best underground groups.

^ Sentus was referring to the fact Slug is my favorite rapper, lol.

You mentioned two really good songs (Song about a friend and always coming back home to you).

IDK how anyone couldn't like Lemons. It's one of the greatest storytelling albums ever made, imo.

I'm not a very big fan of "Overcast!" I don't think Slug really shined on that album. I started liking Atmosphere after God Loves Ugly. Seven's travels is a dope album that doesn't get much recognition. All of the Felt albums are dope, as well. I'm not a huge Murs fan but he holds his own. The last Felt series with the Aesop production was amazing.

slug has so much good stuff out there, he really seems to shine on all of his collaboration work too

Felt 1, 2 & 3 are all enjoyable,.. there is an album by the Dynospectrum out there that Slug was a member of, and that also has some more raw sounding good music

i agree that Overcast! wasn't his best work, but it still has some classic songs like Scapegoat, Writer's Never Die and Brief Description

the song Running with Scissors off of Sad Clown Bad Dub 2 is a great example of his introspective side, and his ability to flow so smoothly and freely while touching on a variety of topics .. check that one out
