RIP Latasha Harlins - 20 years on

Postby stillmatic » Mar 6th, '11, 03:16

There are certain people who may not have been involved in hip hop, but are apart of it's history. It is now exactly 20 years a go that Latasha Harlins, a 15 year old girl from South Central LA was killed.

For those who don't know about her, this video will explain.

Her death had a massive impact on hip hop, and with the help of rappers, started a massive change in the way things were going to be in certain parts of America.

Artists like Tupac were heavily effected, one of his most important songs "Keep ya head up" (as seen in the video) is dedicated to Latasha. As is Ice Cube's heavily controversial "Black Korea" is, which was made just days after the shooting.

Little Latasha, she's grown/ Tell the lady in the liquor store that she’s forgiven/ So come home

Thugs mansion - Tupac.
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".
