What happened to superstar MCs?

I love rap nowadays, I think it in general is better (i.e. mediocre current rappers > mediocre past rappers), but I have to admit we don't have monster MCs anymore.

No Tupac, Biggie, or prime Em/Jay/Nas.
Who do we have? Yes, there are lyrically dope dudes like Lupe or J Cole, but no real industry dominant superstars. It's hard to put my finger on it, but do you know what I mean?
