What exactly seperates B.o.b from being hip hop?

Hip hop is a product of a billion genres such as electro, jazz, reggae and soul. Kraftwerk is considered pioneers ffs.

KRS-One is another legend and pioneer of the game. On Boogie down production's By all means necessary he raps about stopping the violence and how people should treat each other well. That album is a straight classic and is one of the best albums of all time.

This interview explains it all very well:

One Mic wrote:Michael Jackson spawns audiences more than hip-hop, on his own tbh.

The range in demographics of MJ's fanbase is larger than Hip Hop.

And I don't consider a few pop songs that appeal to teenage girls by the likes of Drake, B.o.B, Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne etc spawning audiences, nor do I consider it "hip hop".

Thats because music with singing has been around a lot longer than Hip Hop, and MJ was a guy that appealed to everyone from the mindless pop demograph to audiophiles and people who like quality music.

Hip hop doesnt appeal to older audiences because of how different it is from what they grew up hearing. Of course the Motown kid with the big voice and huge pop singles is gonna be bigger, hell on the Bad album 10 out 11 songs became singles. As Hiphop ages its audience will become much much wider.
