GKMC hasn't influenced any album/artist since it came out...

Has it? This is something that I think is kinda interesting. The album is great still, but I remember reading tons of commentaries from people about how GKMC was the album that will influence rappers in the future and so on. But so far, of all the stuff I've heard this year, from mixtapes to big solo album releases, it appears that everyone is still doing their own shit and really haven't tried to
emulate the cinematic, "movie-like" approach of Kendrick's album.

Your thoughts on this? I personally DGAF honestly, as I see it as a good thing. Why? rappers are just sticking to their own styles and not trying to be bandwagon fuckbois, jacking off the style of another artist.

It has been like a year since it came out though. That's a lot of time.

It had a lot of impact though.

"I feel like the timing of these albums coming out and these artists deciding to be honest with themselves and raising the bar... Kendrick Lamar came out and killed us and really f*cked our heads up with some realness. I think that he's responsible for starting it, but I think these other brothers came back real hard and strong and are very, very competitive. That's when hip-hop or music is at an all time high when people know and they respect, "Yo, that album is dope and I want my album to be better than that album," or, "I want to challenge that album." - Diddy, June 2013

Many artists stepped their game up because reaction-wise , the rap game has failed to produce a better album since GKMC was born

Hmmm, I don't see much of an impact. The rap game nowadays doesn't seem much different than from where it was in 2010, 2011 or early 2012

I disagree to an extent. I think it's helped some artists see that you can sell and not have to blatantly sell out *ie Cole from Cole World*

I only use cole cause I'm a huge Stan, but I think to an extent it's molded a release or two. Just not really in like sound as much as concept.

The first album I thought was gonna be somewhat inspired by GKMC was Born Sinner, but it wasn't.

Kendrick is basically the man to beat right now. From the underground albums to Magna Carta, every album that drops is getting compared to gkmc and Eminem won't be an exception.

Kdot had a fantastic year and is probably here to stay but Eminem is about to kill the game with The Eminem Show 2 :flower:

I agree with this. I think the impact GKMC had was to recalibrate the standard of good music. At a particular time, everyone was just doing whatever the fuck they wanted but after that album, people are a whole lot more critical of music and originality and content etc. Its particularly true for all the "new artists". So while Yeezus and MCHG had little impact because they did not match their earlier works, all other new artists are being so critically scrutinised because nothing has lived up to that standard yet and people dont care MUCH about those artists. J cole, Asap Rocky, Hopsin, Krit are probably the best examples of rappers who without Kendrick's blitz of a year period (not just GKMC) would have been huge drake like superstars but arent.
