Back in 1970, Stanley "Tookie" Williams gathered up a number of black street gangs of LA and formed the Crips in order to "police" the inner cities and reduce the crime rate. This had an opposite effect, as the Crip attrocities towards other smaller gangs became unbearable.
Later in the 70s, a group of OGs gathered up at Piru street in Compton and officially formed the Blood alliance, a group of gangs with the objective to eliminate the Crip threat. A few succeeded attempts led to the death of "Hoover", co-founder of the Crips, and the arrest of Stanley, who was executed for his crimes not long ago.
Right now the situation between Crips and Blood is interamerican, waging from LA to NY and every small and big city between them. The tide of war is 50-50, now that Hispanic and Asian gangs take control over black territories.
