KRS-One

Postby Slim Fiasco » Apr 2nd, '14, 18:47

I know he's dusty and probably gets on your nerves, I would love to stab him myself, but dude has some real solid work!

Namely, his 3 solo albums - Return Of The Boom-Bap, KRS-One, and I Got Next. His voice on those is fucking excellent, great work with the delivery (emotions and energy), and he also has great rhythmic patterns. Like, reggae influenced and shit, which leads to a great combination of melody and passion.

This is evident in his song "A Friend" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_tsaRsEOuU

In addition, the 3 albums have great production, a lot of classic Premier work to be exact. Songs like Step Into A World and MC's Act Like They Don't Know are real alternative but you could also play them in a "mainstream" club and get great response.

Yeah besides his obnoxious know-it-all personality, he has some pretty great tracks.

Word

:D He had a concert here, and in a ways he's real humble, like he wouldn't leave until he signed everybody's papers or whatever, he let people on stage and shit, he's also very passionate about Hip-Hop, but then, there's the other extreme, when he's anti many things, and he creates a weird incongruence or whatever you want to call it. Part of me wanted to kill him that night :shifty:

His best work came when he was with D-Nice and Scott La Rock when they were known as Boogie Down Productions. Criminal Minded, By All Means Necessary, Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip Hop, and Edutainment are all hip hop classics from around the Golden Age. Sex and Violence is solid as well.

They haven't aged particularly well, but you've got to respect what those albums helped pave the way for.

Sure thing, but I didn't mention those because I don't think they hold the same sonic/skills standards as his early solo work.

wat. wat.

KRS may be dusty but he's one of the most humble dudes in the industry. he's like the awesome grandfather everybody wants. i could listen to that dude ramble about shit for days, he's way cool and you can tell he's definitely learned from the experiences in life. i have absolutely no idea what you mean by "his obnoxious know-it-all personality", that's just ridiculous, he's the farthest you can get from that. he's super relaxed and humble 24/7.

KRS-One's nose has achieved the status of nation-state by being larger than most of Cambodia in terms of pure mass. Once his nose obtains self-government, I not only worry about the quality of his music, but also his relationship with the United States of America as he would be a separate state entity within the Americas.
