@Crash, a good listen if I'm looking for something that doesn't try to be so serious then?

Yeah, it's potentially pretty relatable as well. It's a song not an album, btw.

Like, there's often a pretty poor display of lyricism, but fuck it, right?

Even Spoonfull's lyricism is a bit verbose/pretentious at times. (He's in my top 10 btw).

My favourite verse from him is actually Guilty Pleasures, such good writing.

I definitely agree. Guilty Pleasures, I love his verse, but those awful features..I can't make it past the chorus after Spoon's done. Great verse though. Keep the Change is goat.

Yikes.

Not sure if you can explain why he isn't gr8
i'll bite

i don't know if you can explain why he is great. i've listened to most of his prominent discography and i've yet to hear anything past good. his flows are very simple, as well as his rhyme schemes, and his cadence is the worst part of all. the dude has the mic presence of yoko ono. now, that said he is a very solid and extremely consistent mc. but from my experience, nothing beyond that.

i really don't think he is. not even close. kendrick would get steamrolled by people like rittz or wax, shit even snow would fuck him up. kendrick's passionate as fuck but don't confuse that with talent.

but all this is besides the point. i was disagreeing with you that his music matches the hype, i can't think of anything that could live up to kendrick hype.

I thought u were going to only come at the "i was disagreeing that his music matches the hype".

his hype would just be the best rapper in the world right now. and potentially the best ever.

and yes. he is. or at least arguably.

For why he's gr8. it's essentially the same as my praising of slug.

an ability to express the subtleties of everyday going ons and to give life to otherwise mundane situations

Me and my niggas four deep in a white Toyota
A quarter tank of gas, one pistol, and orange soda
Janky stash box when the federales roll up
Basketball shorts with the Gonzales Park odor
We on the mission for bad bitches and trouble
I hope the universe love you today
‘Cause the energy we bringing sure to carry away
A flock of positive activists and fill the body with hate
If it’s necessary
Bumping Jeezy first album looking distracted
Speaking language only we know, you think is an accent
The windows roll down all I see is a hand pass it
Hotboxing like George Foreman grilling the masses
Of the working world, we pulled up on a bunch of working girls
And asked them what they working with – look at me
I got the blunt in my mouth
Usually I’m drug-free, but shit I’m with the homies

the problem with you, is you're reading those lyrics and looking at the rhymes.

the problem with me? oh my bad homie, next time i'm looking for an artform based on rhyme and rhythm i'll be sure to look elsewhere. fuck outta here, slug and kendrick are both very talented artists, but neither are even nominees for the greatest. they lack too much in too many areas.

wait, you think I listen to certain artists for the sake of being different? as someone who lives alone, without friends or any actual human contact outside of my girlfriend, I have to say that would be beyond ridiculous of me. I have nobody to make an impression on. If you feel that the artists I listed are the worst lyricists and people like drake and kanye aren't, then I surrender. If that's what you genuinely believe then I simply cannot participate in an equal discussion with you.
