"15 Ways Kanye West Changed the Game"

He's inspired some of your favorite rappers.

If you’ve reached the upper echelon of rap royalty, then you’ve undoubtedly done something that every rapper after you strives to emulate. Most rappers can only dream of having the cultural impact of Tupac and Biggie. Illmatic is still the crown jewel of hip-hop albums and that hasn’t changed in the 20 years since its release. Rappers are still plotting how they can achieve the feats of Jay-Z both on record and in the boardroom.

For Kanye, his crowning achievement will most likely be the sheer number of rappers that have been allowed into the genre, because of the doors he knocked down.

Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Chance the Rapper, Drake, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Tyler, the Creator, Wale, and countless more have been inspired by the vast achievements of West. And it's no secret. Most rappers are adamant about their respect for West and his musical contributions.

Most of this can be traced back to one defining moment: College Dropout. With the success of Kanye’s first album, he ushered in a new age of hip-hop. Before Dropout most rappers had to have some type of hood credentials. With his first album Kanye broke down this glass ceiling. He made an album about the average man for the average man.

Now hip-hop is filled with rappers that come from all walks of life. With each passing year hip-hop becomes a little weirder and more progressive. From Yung Lean to Young Thug, hip-hop is striving to become more inclusionary and we have a kid from Chicago that wasn’t afraid to dream to thank for that.
