Shop Boyz - Your opinions...

Postby Rob » Jun 7th, '07, 20:00

If you havnt heard them yet, the album 'Rockstar mentality' is in the download section (just leaked).

Just wondering what people thought of their style. Theyre using rock songs and rapping over it. Songs like 'Rollin' have like a 1960's feel to it, but talkin about cars and shit. Its a new style of music, which has been tagged 'Hood Rock.' Production comes from David Banner.

And whats even more interesting is....they claim in an interview that they have never listened to rock, but grew up listening to rap in Atlanta....

Sounds pretty interesting man, I've always loved rap over rock beats, but haven't really seen anyone do it yet, with the best of both worlds. Like, are these guys lyrically good, or are they just like Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit?

Well, thanks for the belated advice, 'cos I already downloaded this album, and listened to it last night. First song came on and I thought, great awesome beat, lyrics weren't awful bad, but very average. Then after that each song kinda got worse in my eyes (Well, ears) and I didn't know if these guys were southern rappers, so I was giving them a free from discimination listen, but every fuckin song was about cars, jesus christ, it was really bullshit. But, some of the beats were very cool.
