LL Cool J - Exit 13 - Review

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Sep 5th, '08, 09:58

decided to check this album out. so thought id do a quick review.

its a decent album, some great songs, other not so good but its problem is alot of repeat concepts, Its time for war is a great openign track really energetic and LL rips it, it catches your attention and starts of strong, then right up untill "ur onyl a customer" the track all feel like repeats of previous songs or just bored out concepts not done anywae different than before, he does spit strong and there are some track that if you hear a couple of times you could really start to enjoy but i only listened through once so im giving first empressions, the track ur onyl a customer is another great track, the next dope track is speedin on the highway, its the smartest song on the album, deciphering hip hop with a metaphor that hip hop is a highway, through-out the album he uses these metaphor lines like "what goods your 22's if your tires are flat" and "you better fasten your seatbelt and make sure that its tight" ...if im looking into it to much but i doubt i am its there some great little lines.

the next notible track is the last track called "dear hip hop" and we all know this concept i being done alot lately but there still great to hear a guy feelign abotu the culture, and LL's thoughts on it are no different, the only thing is he admits he admited defeat spitting "dear hip hop i apologies for how you've been treated, i should have fought for my culture instead i retreated, the game is wounded i stood and watched while they beat it, my culture starved i refused to feed it" and "it went to the highest bidder you got pissed on like kitty litter" he then says he tired of the bitching talk and the usual stuff, but he doesnt really say or do anything that makes me think he truly cares about the route hip hop took and id even say he actually supports it with his 50 cent and fat joe features, 2 guys who sold out with hip hop..so you see the contradiction ? the beat is really nice the chorus is the predictable hip hop samples getting scratched up, good to hear coz not enough rappers let dj's do what they should do and rip up choruses. but really he just says this shit i dont think he cares and it ruins it, but what do i know, either way it is a nice track and good idea of how to finish the album but meh..he is just doin it to do it not coz he wants to anymore...

overall its another one of those "could have been amazing" albums, some track ill listen to again but nothing imma be bumping 2 weeks from now
