Biggie/2Pac beef, the greatest?

Postby DrRapid » Jun 13th, '09, 22:11

It is very common to find some one who will tell you that the greatest hip hop beef of all time has been, the one between 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. Why is it that people think that? Is it because 2Pac released a ferocious diss track towards Biggie Smalls? Is it because it provoked an East Coast/West Coast war? Or is it because the beef ended up with the deaths of two of the greatest rappers of all time?

I will not go into the details why they were beefing. 2Pac got shot in '94, Biggie was in the same building and 2Pac felt like Biggie knew what was going to happen but didn't tell him. Or even that he'd set him up. Biggie recorded a track called Who Shot Ya which could of been a subliminal diss track towards 2Pac about the the shooting. 2Pac took this track as a diss even though Biggie allegedly recorded it before the shooting.

When 2Pac got bailed out of jail by Suge Knight (CEO of Death Row Records at the time) Suge's label already had a bad relationship with Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Entertainment label where Biggie was signed. 2Pac released a diss track towards Biggie and many other rappers called Hit 'Em Up. A brutal track in which 2Pac says he allegedly had sex with Biggie's wife at the time, Faith Evans.

A few months after that 2Pac got shot. Half a year later, Biggie got shot. Biggie never released a diss track towards 2Pac although he did do some subliminals on songs like Long Kiss Goodnight and others after 2Pac's death.

Is this really the greatest or best beef of all time? I don't really think so. Why? Biggie never released a diss track addressing 2Pac publicly. Yes, he did do a tiny diss on Brooklyn's Finest with Jay-Z but nothing on the Hit 'Em Up scale if it was even possible. The beef ended up with their deaths and it did provoke an East Coast/West Coast rivalry but that was really the media helping out a bit there.

I think a beef like Jay-Z and Nas is a better one. One thing is because it didn't end up with their deaths but because they addressed each other loudly on at least a single track. What do y'all think?

Two candidates for the title of GOAT were murdered and pretty much stopped rap beef for like 5 years until Jay-Z and Nas (which is my favorite beef of all time)

jay/nas i say because they eventually settled it like real men...and didnt get everyone involved, besides the two lables and friends...the whole rap community was divided because of it and it was unnecessary

Yes, it did involve two of the G.O.A.T.s at the time who got murdered but the beef wasn't even done properly in the way that Biggie didn't even diss back. He did say in one interview "don't feed into it" but he just did a few subliminals...

There was no beef, because Biggie never responded..
And Diddy said that who shot ya wasnt a subliminal diss to pac.
But Hit'em Up is still one of the greatest diss of all time IMO.
