Yelawolf is the real deal...

Postby EminemBase » Feb 21st, '11, 06:32

All I had heard up until now was a few tracks. I've had Trunk Muzik downloaded for months and still haven't listened to it but i just listened to his Stereo mixtape, and am listening to his first mixtape Ball of Flames: The Ballad of Slick Rick E. Bobby now...

And, I liked "Pop the Trunk" and the other tracks when I heard them, could tell he was skilled and had a unique sound. But was thinking he was maybe a little one dimensional and wasn't sure how much he could do, or how many ways he could flip it - he's definitely the real deal.

I've heard a lot of versatility and good rhythm in these mixtapes so far, most than many exhibit album to album, let alone a few mixtape tracks. A lot of gritty anthem ideas and playful, left-field stuff. Am definitely more excited to hear his debut now and am glad that Em signed him.

Still gotta listen to this through though and then catch-up. I wanna be fully up to speed before I hear his debut. I hate going into artists when I'm not up to speed. But - to anyone who's just heard "Pop the Trunk" or another recent track or, has just made a snap judgement on him and think you know what he's all about, I'd recommend getting his mixtapes and giving him a real chance. He's no hack.

Yelawolf's voice is enough to not make me wanna listen to anything he has ever done.

^ Well then you're doing exactly what I suggested some may be doing. Making a snap judgement based on recent tracks.

His voice isn't the same as that on Stereo, not as extreme and he switches up a lot.

I expect that throughout his career he's going to be a very versatile MC. He has a lot of range and rhythm, a lot of ways to flip himself and style(s).

I guess, I'll YouTube some of his songs on Stereo and decide if I wanna D/L it.

^ You may as well just download his first two mixtapes and listen start to finish.

As, if you have this perception on his voice and just YT a few tracks and hear anything approaching that perception you'll probably just dismiss it lmao.

It's silly to make snap judgements. I think if you download the mixtape(s) and listen through, you'll have a much better idea. Then, if you still think he's shit, that's taste.

Here's a good example of how his voice ain't as extreme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CQKqsuWXuk

But, you'll be surprised by his... knack for general rhythm and chorus' I think, on these first two. I think this really extreme nasal machine gun flow is just a temporary indulgence. I think he can take it many places, gonna be interesting.

First are impressions are everything though, Yelawolf is meh though. He's alright I guess, I prefer Krit in terms of up and coming rappers. Yeah I know that didn't have anything to do with the thread just felt like throwing that out there, he also was featured on his album last year. (dope album btw).

First mixtape is...
Ball of Flames: The Ballad of Slick Rick E. Bobby (mediafire)

and his second is:
Stereo (mediafire)

I'm really liking this first one right now. I really just thought he was another good rhymer with psycho subject-matter and a nice flow but, he's surprising me.

I think he can make big music. And I have a very paritcular taste, in terms of, I have a very detailed ear and bad timing / off-ryhthm is just so awful to me. I think Em is untouchable in that department but, Yela is very good too, he has a decent grasp of musicality in general from the sound of this, not just rap. Which I think makes for a better rapper (Andre 3k, Eminem etc.).

Makes Drake seem like a toy rapper. The hype surrounding that cunt is ridiculous.

The production on here is fucking nice too. Wish Em would get whoever the fuck is on here, instead of hacks like Boi-1da.

^ Fuck that song and fuck Gucci Mane.

Yela's 1st mixtape is classic shit. I think he's going to surprise people with what he can do... and if you listen to him speak he's altering his voice quite a bit on track...

Judging from his singing on some of these hooks (which isn't bad at all) his grasp of melody, his kooky thoughts etc. I think he has a lot of potential, and versatility in him.

^ He's a lot more than that track man.

It's definitely a good track but, checkout his first two mixtapes. He's pretty experimental and versatile, I think you''ll like some of those tracks a lot.
