Drake could be a legend if he only was on a good label

Postby Fa-Q » May 25th, '11, 06:15

Instead, he is the protege of Lil Wayne and is only showing degradation in talent. Listen to his verses on So Far Gone....and then on Thank Me Later....and then his 2011 verses....its blatantly obvious his lyrics are on the decline.

Now, he was a free agent up until about 2009 and then Young Money and YMCMB gobbled him up. Now, can you imagine if he decided to go to Roc Nation and had Jay-Z be his boss and mentor? What about if he went to Aftermath under Dre or Shady under Eminem.

Honestly, if he would have gone to Roc Nation he would be bigger than life. Picture this. Kanye for production, Jay-Z as his boss, Rihanna for his hooks, and J. Cole for his collabs.....but sadly he has people like DJ Khaled for his produduction, Lil Wayne as his boss, Nicki Minaj for his hooks, and shitty artists like Gutta Gutta and Tyga for his collabs......its almost pathetic and what a waste...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQwGyDvCUZc can you hear the hunger? Well its gone now

Sorry, but that's a cop out.

He has taken himself down that path. He jumped on a bandwagon for one, and it was only a matter of time before the real hip hop community would get tired of his bland nature and recognize how much of a softcock he is. And that is that, Drake is the softest nigga in rap history.

For what it's worth, he has had Kanye production and we ended up with him singing an entire song. We have had a RIhanna collab and he ended up embarrassing himself with arguably the corniest punchline in recent memory. We have had J.Cole collabs and we ended up with an irrelevant track. We did have Jay influenced tracks and we ended up with a fade track.

The notion that Jay-Z would have steered Drake towards greatness is bullshit. Name artists Hov has directed towards greatness? If you say Kanye, you really need to check your facts.

I would easily co-signed this thread last year, but I actually think he's starting to get back to where he was

His verse and hook on I'm On One and the opener for his new album "Dreams Money Can Buy" are both enjoyable, especially the latter which raised my expectations for Take Care from nothing to being pretty excited about it

LOL

It doesn't matter what label he was on, I could never take him seriously anyway.

Some geeky actor, turned 'rapper'. One of the most manufactured rappers out today. Hip Hop fell off

Drake makes really good music. TML was severely underrated.

I think he would be much better than he is if he wasn't on Young Money, but in no means a legend. YM isn't even to blame for it, though, it's Drake's fault for dumbing himself down because the majority of his fanbase are white and black suburban girls...YM just...isn't a good influence, I guess, the mediocrity that plagues that label rubbed off on Drake a little bit.

With that being said, he's the best one on there, no doubt, and probably is better than even Wayne...which isn't saying a whole lot, tbqh.

Blaming the label is a copout.

That's like saying Cashis should be awesome by default since he's signed to Shady, and look at him.

Trust me nobody hates Young Money more than me, they have turned mainstream rap quite shitty, but you can't blame them.

Drake is who he is at the end of the day. I was never a fan even when I first heard his early shit, I just never liked him. His voice is the kind of voice you hear on snobby frat boys, so fucking arrogant and sleazy. He slurs all his lines, and half his lines are just two phrases connected with an awkward pause as though we're supposed to go "OH WOW!!!"

I can't respect a rapper who "freestyles" by reading from his Blackberry.
