Kanye West: Overrated or Underrated?

Personally I think his production abilities are quite overstated. He's nice, always brings something new to the table, isn't scared of experimenting but I can't find myself enjoying it as much as I would enjoy a Kno, Premo or a Dilla beat. He's like the Canibus of production; too intricate for my liking(pardon the analogy).

As a lyricist he's quite underrated but I can't stand his flow and his rhyming abilities are extremely mediocre, so just an above par emcee for me.
He still manages to put out good to great albums and has one of the most impressive discographies in the genre.

He is somewhat overrated but for a good reason. He's not overrated like Wayne is overrated or anything like that. He makes very good music but as an MC he's not that great...he is a good lyricist like you said, it's just his rhyming ability is pretty basic. Still one of the better mainstream rappers out there though.

The only time he is overrated is by Ye Stans. A new song, Superluva, just leaked and KTT went crazy over it. Its some trash and was unreleased for a reason. I love Yeezus but always admit when he does something wack.

Not at all, how does thinking he is the best instantly overrate him? I always admit when he does somethink wack or has a wack verse. Right now, Cruel Summer is a lil worrisome. Mercy is fine, but nothing special. Theraflu is dope but would be very bad if it was on his next album

Eh i like Mercy, it bangs in the car, but I understand people not liking it. Ye had the worst verse too. Every GOOD Friday track from 2010 is better.

And I really like Theraflu, just musically it doesnt belong on a Kanye West album.

He is overrated. Good but overrated. Also his last album is WAY OVERRATED

Underrated. People tend to belittle his rapping skills but everything is not about rhyming. He's had the best songwriting skills ever since 2004, and his delivery is perfect. His rapping skills are extremely well-balanced and he's extremely well-rounded as an artist, and to me that's better than forcing/excelling in just one department. He makes excellent albums and is very consistent, and the abilities needed for that are elements that are part of rapping skills.

I think he's perfectly rated, nobody is hailing him as a genius as far as rapping goes, (he's more than adequate on the mic though) but his production, artistic vision and most importantly his ability to craft songs and albums is way above most other artists
