Trunk Muzik Returns

Postby EminemBase » Jun 17th, '13, 07:35

Just listening to this again (sober), since the first time I listened to it (unfocused and drunk) and it's sounding a lot better than I remember... really cohesive... I mean, I liked it when I first listened to it but I think this is a collection of songs which grows on you more...

The production is really good.

I like that shit Yela does on here too where it focuses in on a moment in his verse, he keeps the same tone and almost sounds like a robot just spazzing out with a killer, mechanic flow...

He definitely made the right choice @ working with 1 producer and recognizing the error in 'too many cooks' theory which EVERY fkn rapper of the past 5 years does... bring on Love Story,

OP knows his stuff. I agree and couldn't be more excited for Love Story.

What's your favourite song off TMR btw?

Coincidentally, I was also listening this just now and thinking the same exact thing. The production is amazing, the whole thing has a cohesive feel. It feels like a complete project.
From the opening bass in Firestarter, to the climactic guitar riffs on Tennessee Love. Its an amazing album and Yelawolf's best work to date.

Gotta be "Catfish Billy", shit is cocaine.

I'm always a lover of aggressive, lyrical, smart-ass assault kind of tracks with insane flows though, they just give me that feeling like 'ooh yeah', like a drug, like "Almost Famous".

And parts of "Catfish Billy" make a good self-evident argument for Yela still being one of the illest and most freakishly gifted rhyme-flow-delivery robots in a good while. Pretty awesome.

Also, the EP with Ed Sheeran was very good... like, very good and in its own lane... same with 'Psycho White'... those are two sweet little projects that don't overwhelm you but just give you a little taste of some new Yela in a new zone, both totally different musically and stellar performances on both. Those two EPs combined with TMR... I'd say Yela has definitely successfully repented for Radioactive. He's delivered some solid-ass music, not just music for the sake of putting out more music. So, if he can deliver on Love Story, all is forgiven :P

Yeah Catfish Billy is monstrous, I can't help but play it loud and feel his energy with that crazy flow... especially when he goes all out on the 2nd verse. That shit is bananas yo!

I've liked nearly everything Yela has put out, so my opinion could be a bit biased but I think Slumdon Bridge and Psycho White are fucking great. Two completely different projects, shows how versatile Yela can really be.

Yeah... he's like B.o.B in that respect... but, better... I mean; B.o.B is actually a musician so more capable in some respects, but both can do pretty much any genre.

Yela sounds just as comfortable doing relaxed, smooth country rap as he does doing shouty, aggressive metal-rap as he does... any kind of rap. He can adapt in any way.

Yela can even do a classic southern rock album with songs like 'Take It Easy', and still sound like he's been doing that since the start of his career.

We're gonna rock this house until we knock it down
So turn the volume loud, cause it's mayhem 'til the a.m.
So baby make just like K-Fed and let yourself go, let yourself go
Say fuck it before we kick the bucket
Life's too short to not go for broke

Go Berzerk!

Great points... :y: Esp. about the old formula of one MC & one producer... minus the fact Yela had feats. on the album of course.
I was only disappointed it came a bit short... I mean like a couple more tracks of that caliber would make it insane.
