I'm no expert either but I'd say Rakim made it "cool" to use multies.

Rakim
TrShady is just great. A place where pompousus blowhards can connect with other pompousus blowhards, and form a vast circle jerk of pomposity.

i say kool g rap like he was the first to do multis properly he was the first use assonance and mix it with perfect rhyming and match it in syllable count.

example 1989 kool g rap road to the riches

When I was five years old I realized there was a road
At the end I will win lots of pots of gold
Never took a break, never made a mistake
Took time to create cause there's money to make
To be a billionaire takes hard work for years
Some nights I shed a tear while I said a prayer
Been through hard times, even worked part time

Me, obviously.

On a serious note - I love the care for the history of the craft in regards to hip-hop technique; the fact something so finite and detailed would be a major focus among some hip-hop fans is great. Although I have no real idea what other genres are like, and I presume there are similar obsessions over techniques in context.

Still, the fact rap can do this? Pretty awesome.

I've had muchos Whiskey btw. so... reply explained. Peace yo.

Well, Paid In Full was out in '87 and Rakim was doing multis on there.

"So I start my mission, leave my residence
Thinking how could I get some dead presidents
I need money, I used to be a stick-up kid
So I think of all the devious things I did"

"I used to roll up, this is a hold up, ain’t nothing funny
Stop smiling, be still, don’t nothing move but the money
But now I learned to earn cause I’m righteous
I feel great, so maybe I might just"
