Scarface: "the dumbest shit ever is #1 on the radio right no

Postby King Lance » Dec 27th, '13, 23:40

the interviewer also talks about Em at the end of the video.

“I be looking at shit like a conspiracy…That’s the way I feel about music, man,” Scarface said. “You know what I mean? I feel like the powers that be are intentionally dumbing down our craft, man. I feel like they dumbing us down. Because the dumbest shit I ever heard is on the radio right now.”

He further elaborated on his conspiracy theory as he commented on “urban Hip Hop” versus “suburban Hip Hop,” and spoke on how “dumb” Hip Hop has become. Scarface later suggested that the powers that be are dumbing down the genre because it was becoming too great.

“To paint the picture that I’m trying to paint to you guys is it seems like all our shit is sounding really stupid and really, really dumb. Really, really corny,” the Texas rapper said. “And then, you know, you got the other shit that sounds really, really [great]…I wanna say this shit as diplomatic and as responsible as I can…When urban Hip Hop sounds like this and suburban Hip Hop sounds like that, I kinda feel fucked up. You know? It’s like our shit fucked up and the powers that be pour salt on the wound…I don’t even look at it as a threat or it being too fucking powerful. I just look it as being too fucking great.”

Scarface made similar comments earlier this year during an interview with Hardknock TV when he informed those watching that the people in control of Hip Hop are white and Jewish.

"I feel like we losing it," he said. "I feel like the people that are in control of what Hip Hop does is so fucking White and so fucking Jewish and so they don't give a fuck about what the culture and the craft really is about."

Yeah it's so sad to see a legend of this caliber bitching about stuff like that... Dre, LL & Jay are older than Scarface but keep getting theirs... Busta & Em are a little bit younger than him & kept getting theirs all the way too. He sounds so salty God damn it...

No doubt, it's sad to see. Denial, I guess. It's like a classic case of old person nostalgia withdrawal - "Back in MY day, we did _____ and said ______" it's just natural, I guess.
Hip-Hop woulda died if it stayed still.

Word...He's been talking about it for years. Bun B is from Houston too & is a little younger but from Scarface generation too & kept moving all the way getting his... many other rappers from Texas got theirs in the meantime too. Scarface retired twice already & never stopped talking about this shit for like a decade now... Come on man.

I know... the reason he's mad is that any kind of commercial success is far behind him & that nobody calls him The King of the South since T.I. took over years ago. I mean if it's about the craft as he says he should keep going... a lotta fans would be still happy about him dropping albums.

Word, and it's pretty preposterous how all these dudes are dissing 'white people' for Hip-Hop's current state. You've got the veterans co-signing motherfuckers like Drake and Wayne who play a huge role in this whole watering-down degeneration, you got stupid guys like B.o.B who just gave up on the art and makes BULLSHIT now. The list of black rappers that are what these old bitter veterans describe as ruining Hip-Hop, but no one says shit.

Word on that too... I know Scarface & his crew were always on point but ironically many southern acts brought the change they're complaining about.

Scarface has some valid arguments though.

Most labels and radio stations are owned by white people and he probably wants more blacks to get some sort of actual ownership and be more invested on the business side of things and have more power.
A lot of people think that artists like Eminem were made to get white girls money. Em was great for the genre, he was making great music & gave white people the chance to get involved in hip hop but all the other cats who tried to replicate his success (Drake, Lil Wayne, Macklemore,..) make shit pop music to appeal to more people.
Maybe you haven't noticed that shit but the streets dickride meek mill and the nas & pac fans dickride Kendrick because they want the genre to be "black" again

Racism will always exist in hip hop as long as label owners will force their artists to make the crossover. Why is macklemore being disrespected as an mcee ? because he doesn't have a lot of rap fans..

it's not his fault, but he'll never be respected by hip hop fans because they consider his music to be pop music for girls.

The radio is how the industry can measure popularity or even force popularity. Artists like Macklemore, Lil Wayne or Drake make music that appeal to women because they know women ain't on forums like us dudes so they pretty much rely on the radio for new music and to find out what's hot/playin in the clubs but rap fans.
Look at the hit singles from the last 5 years.. 90% of them are for women.

He's decent at best but he knows damn well that his audience doesn't consist of hip hop fans.

Those "hip hop fans" sound like the typical ignorant "purist" fucks that can't stop yapping about what "real" hip-hop is. Mack's music is for people, of all genders and races.... which is a great accomplishment considering that he transcends the genre and is helping it evolve as a form of music. That is something the typical rapper fails to do.

his music is not what hip hop used to be, it's not what hip hop is supposed to be IMO. I tried to enjoy it but it's just corny, I hate it.

Scarface's problem with Hip Hop today is the same problem Pimp C had with Hip Hop in 07, they feel that by the major labels only supporting party records or turn up tracks, blacks as a people who consume this music are not gaining anything from the music. While Hip Hop music has always be violent and had party tracks, most of those artists who created this music also hit you with the socioeconomic shit, life lessons, etc. there was a balance at one time.

Now to my point about the music, Scarface think that by allowing more and more of the dumbed down music to fly, niggas are becoming dumber and dumber, he doesnt believe that there is substance like there was "back in the day". Truth is I listen to music more than I read, music influences us in ways we dont realize all the time and for people who dont have common sense they will either remain stupid and lack intellectual understanding about anything in the world or completely

Where do you think the recent hate for eminem come from ? he changed his music to appeal to more people: love the way you lie, monster,.. The same shit happened to J. Cole, Lil wayne was huge in the street but the same shit happened to him, it's happening with Drake and it will happen to everybody who makes music for women & clubs.

Yeah but neither of those songs are made for softer audiences. What's so different between Em in 99 or 00? He was saying crude shit but girls bought his music anyways, regardless of lyrics and it's still pretty much the same story today despite having Rihanna on two of his singles.

If Scarface has a problem, then he should be cussing out the Hip-Hop legends now who are cosigning half of these fucking acts. Why are assholes like Em and Nas shouting out weak fucks like Wayne, Ross, Drake and Nicki? It's the old generation giving these dudes a pass, the only rapper who actually has an open issue with these particular artists (not all) is DMX but he's too fucked up on coke to be taken seriously.

This is exactly what he said a few months ago when he said the industry is white :y:

The big corporations have control over that shit, it's a business, you have to be cool with whoever is hot. Everything is made for the benefit of big corporations and not for the music

Corporations can control the radio and music, but it's the fans who are buying into it all at the end of the day. Blame people accepting mediocrity.
