Something that I would listen to for years and not get bored of it, something that is well balanced-out.

Not gonna do a list because I only started broadening my hip-hop views like 2 years ago. I was listening to only Eminem before that, so I can't call an album a classic when I have only been listening to it for a year or two.

Certain classics are TES and MMLP for me tho.

Agree, but I also think that it has to have an impact on you. Like there's several albums that I really enjoy but wouldn't say are classics. Like Recovery is amazing, but it didn't have the effect: "WOW!!!!! :o" kind of factor that SSLP-TES did when I first listened to them. And I also can't do a list because I was a full blown only Em fan till a year and a half ago lol. :sweating:

In 2010 Recovery is a fucking classic.
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

I think it's too early to tell if Recovery is a classic or not.

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot : The Son Of Chico Dusty
Kno - Death Is Silent
The Roots - How I Got Over
Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives

All better than Recovery.

Does the reception of the album make it a classic?

Encore sold way more and its singles did way better than 36 chambers ever did, but that didn't make it a classic.

My formula for a classic is a mix of silly and Meaningful Lyrics ± Uniqity from beat to beat but still maintaining an overall sound ± A different style from anything that's ever been done = a classic....

Basically

Me Against The World
Ready To Die
Eminem Show
The Chronic
36 Chambers
The Marshall Mathers LP
