Does he even have any skills? I never liked any of his records and i only listen to Renegade that features Royce...Fuck the other one!
I'd say.... Eminem > Nasty Nas > Tupac > Biggie
FUCK THE REST

Reasonable Doubt? Blueprint? Kinda the definition of classics right there...

But nah, you're a "Revolutionary" who only listens to elite hip hop, like Immortal Technique and some guys no one has ever heard of but are soooooo lyrical. I mean, they have no flow and are pretentious idiots, but they're reallllll hip hop man!

I listen to D12, Slaughterhouse, Nas, Biggie, Tupac, Tech N9ne, Slim Thug, B.o.B, Bun-B, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, The Game, Young Buck, T.I, Cunninlyingusits, Chamillionaire, DMX, Eazy-E,Flipsyde, Ludacris, Scarface,Xzibit, Saigon, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Busta Rhymes, Obie Trice, Immortal Technique & lots more....They are all famous, and BTW everybody knows IT its just that he doesn't wanna be famous, i believe he could push more than 100k on his first week.

Please explain how any album by Fab, Slim Thug, Young Buck, or Jeezy can even touch Blueprint? I like all those dudes but....really? Explain how Jay isn't "real hip hop". Better yet, explain what "real hip hop" is.

I just don't like his music, he didn't get my attention, sure i do listen to SOME of his songs but i just can't get into liking him. On the other hand Jeezy is a whack rapper but he has some good music that got me!That's all what's in it...No harm intended!
I'm not one of those guys that are gonna be jerks and say a rapper is totally whack when he isn't.

^Seems like you were saying he's wack. I don't care if you like him, I'm not a huge fan of Rakim but I can definitely respect him.

Blueprint is so overrated. So overrated. And I'm a fan of Jay.

I went with Nas.

Nas > Biggie > Tupac > Jay

This response is getting extremely repetitive. Is this the only comeback these days? "Well, you only listen to elite hip hop, blah blah blah" I mean, what the fuck does that have to do with anything? If he doesn't like Jay, he doesn't like Jay. Jay is one of the most overrated rappers of all time, I like some of his music but the majority of it is pretty stale and boring. Biggie is FAR better than Jay, and Jay's still alive

EminemBase wrote:Well, 2Pac is renowned for his emotion so people assume he's overrated as a lyricist - which he is, BUT at the same time he's underrated because of that perception.

As, he was still a very skilled lyricist and one of the best. Like Em, he had many shades to his character, he chose more and more to emphasize emotion and content over lyrical focus - As Em also did post MMLP but because of this people are blindsided in seeing his lyrical skill too. So, 2Pac deserves a mention but Nas is a better 'technical' lyricist.

I say 'technical' as, well he's better at rhyme schemes etc. but Nas also can't do what 2Pac could do and there's more to great rap lyricism and great lyricism than just rhyme schemes and one-liners etc. Not that Nas is a one-liner kind of guy, but I don't mean punchlines, I mean ALL one-liners, one-liner poetic points and so on. But, there's so much to being a great lyricist.

And I think the more a lyricist can do, the greater they are. Which is why Em is the greatest of them all, as he can do it all. They can't.

Back to the thread though, as for Biggie - I'm not well-versed enough in his work to give a proper opinion but from what I've heard he's good. PS. It's kind of bizarre he's looked at as this kind of, ultimate truth telling gangsta, the ultimate... Honesty of the genre when in reality he was a fraud himself lmao.

Anyone who doubts me - Go look into his background PROPERLY. Don't just read Wikipedia - There's videos of his own mother talking about his life. He went to fucking private school and his mother provided a middle-class environment for him. He always had food on the table and clothes etc. and she was like talking about him rapping about growing up in the slums with no food etc. and saying how that was just him rapping about other people's lives.

Doesn't take anything away from him as a lyricist, but it's just wrong that people have this perception of him, when he was actually a fake. He knew those sorts of people but he was rapping their lives, not his.

And, jay doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as 2Pac and Nas. He's always annoyed me, I quite like him as a person but he's by far the most overrated MC i've ever come across. And it's only been recently that EVERYBODY has been sucking his cock. And the justification is always what he's done as a business man...

It's like, who gives a fuck? That's a separate discussion. All these polls that rate 'great MC's' and evoke fucking money-making skills and "swag" into it are ridiculous. I couldn't give a fuck if Jay was the black Bill Gates, he's not that great of an MC and Nas and 2Pac are easily better.

biggie went to Catholic school, and years ago, catholic school was not very expensive at al like it is now. I go to Catholic school now, and my parents also did. And they grew up in Philadelphia with parents who struggled to make ends meet, so yeah you can go to Catholic school and still be in the lower class,
