Recovery is "population of earth" more times better than Relapse

I try and erase Relapse from my memory.

It's weird how you hate on poppy, soft music but you like Recovery :-k

Recovery, hands down. I like about 3-4 songs on Lasers and even those don't have much replay value.

I love Lupe Fiasco, and now that he is no longer at such a shitty label, the next album he'll make is definitely gonna be better than 99 % of the stuff Eminem has made lately but in this particular case, it is not even close. I've listened to more than 40 new albums this year and Lasers has been one of the worst.

This.

Recovery is light years ahead of Lasers.

However, Lasers is not a Lupe Fiasco album. The album doesn't change my perception of Lupe at all.

Lupe Fiasco's album will come out later this year. His album.

Lasers was an Atlantic album.

Very untrue statement about Recovery.

I remember the reaction of a lot of core fans here and on RapBasement and it was overwhelmingly positive when Recovery dropped and still is for the most part.

I remember the usually very very critical and dismissive Em fans on RB saying Recovery was amazing top to bottom and there were no weak tracks.

Now, initial excitement can certainly muffle your judgement a little but, I'm a hardcore fan and have been listening to him since 99' and absolutely try to dissect his every intention and understand and appreciate everything he does, on an artistic level. And Recovery is very solid.

The only dissappointing thing about it is the production, it ruins it and makes it sound uneven and sparse. But in terms of the material? there are some incredible songs there...

- Cold Wind Blows
- On Fire
- Going Through Changes
- Space Bound
- Cinderella Man
- Almost Famous

"Space Bound" and "Cinderella Man" particularly showed growth and a nice evolution lyrically in my opinion, especially towards the end of the latter, the writing / phrasing is more mature and potent. Has a real edge to it. And then, "Almost Famous" is just like a fucking atomic bomb going off inside your skull every time you play it.

Recovery was received lukewarmly, by critics. But most fans I've seen like the album or at least think it's good or above average in most aspects. Then, you have some who hate it and think it's commercial or pop or trash but, most I've seen say such things are usually going on face-value perception (haven't listened to it), probably because Rihanna and Pink are on it...

He really tried to go back to bare roots with most elements of his rapping, really tried to nail his technical ability to the wall again. Whether he achieved it or not is a matter of opinion but, it's certainly not very commercial or compromised for the most part.

I agree he aimed wider, and Paul himself has said that - he clearly tried to strike the balance. But he did it by getting trendier production and bigger chorus' which he himself couldn't achieve, as he can't sing. But his rapping, style and content? not commercial. He's totally himself, and raw.

Recovery isn't a classic. But it has some classic tracks. Overall, it's a great album.

As for Lasers, haven't listened to it still so can't comment.

That sums up the whole album for me. My opinion on Lupe hasn't changed at all either cus it was never the real Lupe we heard on Lasers. Almost every single line just screams money and airplay...

It's just a shame that the label had to fuck up his momentum completely cus he is an absolutely brilliant emcee who represents the heart of hip hop to the fullest in the mainstream. Rakim actually gave him major props a couple of weeks ago.

He doesn't seem to have much respect in the underground so I was really hopeful that this album was going to gain him some new fans there. He deserves it.

I can see why Eminem fans like Recovery cus there are plenty of elements of him on the album such as On fire, Going through changes and No Love whereas 90 % of Lasers is so anti-Lupe in almost every possible way.
