Proof made good music, but he was overshadowed by eminem so he never blew up to the mainstream. Not being known isnt the same as not living up to full potential.

Hopefully he proves me wrong with Love Story.
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Searching for Jerry Garcia is a great album, so I'd say he lived up to it... I think he could have made multiple classics, but it's not like he never rapped great. And he created a great album.

I'm a huge Wu fan, and I think that Deck is the best lyricist in the group, but he's never really made a classic album.
"Uncontrolled Substance" came pretty close but it wasn't on the caliber of something like Only Built For Cuban Link, I think if Deck's catalog was bigger he probably would've made one.
In the Clan in terms of dropping verses, he did definitely, but not as a solo artist.

As for Jada, he's always tried to appeal to the pop market while trying to remain street which has only worked out really well for a few artists, none of his albums are really all that consistent, he's still a great rapper but he isn't consistent.

Banks is someone whose a great lyricist but never had the cinematic feel of say a 50 Cent album - even though he's a better MC than 50 - G Unit didn't produce enough music once they came to a major spot for him to really get his shine.
Still Banks is a beast and he's my favourite from the Unit.

Royce Da 5"9's music has never really appealed to me, he's like the above mentioned artists, he's had some great verses, some great songs but never a truly great album.

Finally, Wayne's music turned to shit in 2006.
From there on it's been wack punchline after whack puchline, shitty song after shitty song.

Fabolous.

Unfortunately, after around 2007 he intentionally decided to dumb down his music.

But before that, his multi syllable rhyming is on the level of what a lot of underground, up and coming, and battle rappers are doing nowadays.

Ma Be Easy

A rhyme scheme of 6 syllable multis, 12 bars long.

He's created some classic tracks but... I would have expected him to come with a debut that made a dent in the genre... I know he realizes he made a mistake... but for fuck sake, to get that far... why would you then risk it all by compromising on your FIRST major album.

I mean, maybe if he had put out a few majors which didn't connect, it would make more sense. But to get to a major deal on the back of his raw material then do that... makes no sense.

Your debut is your introduction, that's the worst time to be fucking around with your shit for execs.

Same with Slaughterhouse. I dont get it.

"Hey, Fucking Eminem saw us and loved us for this reason, but we´re gonna make an album to please fans that hopefully will like us for that reason!"

Just fucking do what made you come this far in the first place!
Yelawolf finally got that, TMR proved that <3. The others though, I dont know...
