No they aren't.

Hip hop is a musical genre and music is about connecting with the listener, it's not because a lot of people can relate to them that they are overrated.

Tupac is one of the greatest story tellers and biggie has one of the greatest flows.

Say what you will but I can't listen to too much from either one of them... As far as the question goes. I'd easily choose Pac. I don't quite know what it is myself, but, Biggie irritates the shit out of me most the time.

I can't even help it, either. Kinda strange.

I think it's more "WAS one of the greatest storytellers" and "HAD one of the greatest flows". I think Biggie's flow was like a more defined version of Jay-Z's in which it's pretty versatile, but also pretty boring and not impressive compared to others. Pac on the other hand was surpassed by Em and Nas in every category he thrived in (except maybe his delivery in Nas's case) imo.

I still think that Em and Nas were better technically but for me, Tupac was a better story teller tbh, Every time I listen to one of his songs, he brings me to another world... I have the feeling that he showed more passion in his songs than Nas.

As for biggie, he had an effortless flow, he was able to alternate flows within verses but keep it playful and simple enough for the audience to follow

People tend to lean towards Pac more due to his content being about the black struggle and the hardships of life.

Biggie was more of a crazy ass, drug dealing, total thug (not saying 2Pac wasn't). I would assume Eminem fans grew up liking Biggie more than Pac.

I like both equally.

I would totally view Tupac as more of a thug then Biggie.

Biggie started out with the struggle & hustling (Ready To Die) & then it changed into the money rap Scrooge Mcduck shit "Life After Death"

Pac started out with a message, and eventually got more and more wrapped up in the gang banging shit thanks to Death Row.

I tend to think most Eminem fans are Pac fans too

right now ?

I would say Nas, Kendrick, Budden and Eminem imo

Budden and Nas have structured, impressive and flawless flows.
Kendrick is impressive when he has to make transitions between different rhythmic levels, I think he does it better than anyone else in the game and imo, it's an important part of the flow.
Eminem, well it's Eminem ! His mastery of any and all aspects of rhyming is impressive.

some rappers have influenced hip hop in general so it's not a surprise to see them being mentioned everywhere but I'll be honest, I still bump Pac albums more than Eminem and Nas albums... and I love all of them

and still, Tupac's album is mentioned in every list because it was a fucking great album, some albums aren't mentioned anymore, a lot of albums didn't age very well but All Eyez on Me is still a masterpiece.

Some people cry because their favorite albums have bad reviews but it's normal tbh, a lot of artists are monsters, a lot of artists have great skills but they still don't know how to make an album.
Tupac understood that an album wasn't just a collection of songs and he'll always be remembered for that.

So true.

You can rename a lot of albums into something like The Artist Name - Compilation .

And being an MC is also about being able to move a crowd! Tupac had a simple rhyme structure but he was a fucking great story teller and he was able to move a crowd better than everybody!!! Some rappers can say a million different syllables about shit NOBODY cares about and move nobody.

He was so charismatic, he showed a lot of passion, he used to rap with emotion.. man you just wanted to rap with him :'(

Now that I think about it, All Eyez on Me (which I agree is a great album) does sort of sound like a compilation album. There's a mix braggadocio and introspective tracks with a lot of features (some are great, some are smooth, but some are also underwhelming). There's no overall theme nor is there anything connecting the songs, other than they're all produced really well and Pac's passion.

So I have to disagree, I don't think Pac was this rapper who put effort into making each song a masterpiece. He has a handful bad songs imo and there was also that video that shows his work ethic was quantity>quality.

I honestly think he's still talked about because he made rap music ahead of his time (just like Illmatic). But time has caught up now :b:

I thought All eyez on me was very cohesive tbh but I agree that he was a quantity > quality man at the end of his career
