Not sure I'd call it revolutionary yet lol, depends on if it actually changes anything big-time, for the better or in any true sense or whether it just ends up being a one-off deal...

I think it's pretty lame though to be going platinum or counting sales to businesses as that's a false reflection of demand as... you could just build a good business relationship with a big corp or they fancy trying to market some element of you which fits well with their brand and that could determine if they buy records from you or not... so it kind of gives a deceptive perception of an artist's success then I think, it's just lame... if I was an artist I would want to sell a million in the first week because I made something amazing; not because I made a deal with Samsung. Meh.

I would feel the same way 10 years ago, but it's 2013. Shitty music sells and the best albums don't. For fuck sake, look at Kendrick, GKMC is one of the greatest hip-hop albums of the last 10 years and it still hasn't sold a million copies, but then you have lack luster pieces of shit like Lil Wayne and Drake going platinum in 2 weeks.

I don't blame Jay or anyone who does anything similar in the future for this. You combat the album leaking before it's release and you secure 1 million sales. It is the smartest move to make in this day and age tbh.

But he's as rich as any human ever needs to be... does his album leaking or some less sales really matter? the fact he still raps about money is amazingly lame... he embarrassingly and vaguely mentions famous artists like Picasso as if he's along side them... imagine if Picasso just painting dollar bills every painting; with his platform... all I would be focused on is creating mind-blowing material, I wouldn't give a fuck about sales or the album leaking. These are such lame areas to focus on when making art.

And, Kendrick is a new artist and music like his shouldn't sell by the bucket loads... some art is supposed to be an acquired taste, but I think he will be gigantic over-time, just like Em was, people think Em was instantly huge but with SSLP... he sold like 200/oddk in the first week, just like Kendrick... he built up his repertoire quickly with amazing performances and concepts, and of course creative as fuck provocation which is what made MMLP ginormous...

I think of Drake like Britney. He just writes about popular things in broad ways, so, shit like that will always sell well, because intelligence is fringe and good taste is fringe.

Considering what Kendrick is and the fact it's his first album - he actually sold very well.

But on a serious note, who gives a fuck about sales? Just make better music.
