gkmc is universally acclaimed, just like illmatic, reasonable doubt, food & liquor, MBDTF, the universally acclaimed albums are always the ones held in highest regard.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. If you want to say "it will always be held in highest regard" then yeah probably, but the reason that will happen is because of mentalities like that. He hasn't released anything yet and you just make the statement that it will always be his best album? So much logic.

Universally acclaimed albums are the ones held in highest regard. You can still find people who enjoy s80 more but admit that gkmc is the better album, the same shit is happening to Nas with illmatic and It Was Written.

I don't remember the last time anyone had more pressure on a followup than Kendrick. I tend to hate Nas comparisons, especially Illmatic comparisons, but I do feel like Kendrick is in a somewhat similar situation. The difference is that GKMC was not just critically successful, it was commercially successful and the album hasn't left the charts yet. He has proclaimed himself the best rapper, and many others in the media have too. And while everyone is cheering the kid, I feel like the knives will be out soon.

Just think: if it's not a concept album, people will automatically complain it's not as "cohesive" as GKMC. If it doesn't go plat, Drake and his sorry fans will rightfully be able to breath a sigh of relief and laugh at Kendrick's failure. The first single will be automatically compared to Swimming Pools. People will constantly be looking for a way to downgrade the album. It could be an undeniable masterpiece, but if it sells 650k people will be saying it was a flop...

i totally agree that if it is not a concept album then people will automatically say it isnt as good. however, i feel like his next album will be his best. cant wait
