There's a lot of truth in the video above in regards to how SM is ran. You can't expect the artists to sell if you aren't promoting them.

As much as The Jokerr diss was probably a lot of hyperbole, when he said that Strange Music is actually Tech N9ne Music, I thought that seemed pretty accurate.

what? have you listed to rittz's album? those beats are chill as fuck. or what about prozak's? and ces cru's constant energy struggle's had a lot of original sounding beats that can't be compared to anything. and mayday does their own shit. it's really only lynch and tech that use a ton of dark beats

Sorry, I wasn't aiming to generalize everyone on Strange. But I would even say that Prozak, Ces Cru, Tech, and Krizz all have that same general Strange Music sound, which can be very generic, a lot of the time. Not all the time, but it happens.

I'd say that Rittz and BLH are two of the more unique sounding out of all of them. BLH uses the dark beats, but his rapping is a hell of a lot different than what I'd consider the generic SM sound.

I honestly think that Prozak is one of the more lackluster rappers I've ever heard, although my sample size is incredibly limited.

I'm not trying to take away from him, I like Krizz, but if I was to hear his music not knowing who he's signed to (features aside) my first guess would be Strange purely based on his sound. He's a lot different, but at the same time he totally fits the SM build to me.

well keep in mind krizz wouldn't be anything without tech. tech took him under his wing like 10 years ago and rigorously developed him from a choir boy to what he is now. and given that tech never does anything without krizz being somehow involved, i don't know what more you'd really want sm to do in that department.

and the truth is tech personally promotes the fuck out of fellow strange artists, on his twitter, all over his FB, and everything they do is front-paged on the strange music site. every artist on the label does music videos, performances, tours, i don't see what you guys mean by the other artists not being as promoted as tech. it's just that tech was essentially the only dude on the label for so long, it's only just in the last couple years that they've been signing on a bunch of new artists. it was originally just a platform to get tech's music out there. but i'd go so far as to say that not many labels promote their artists as hard as sm does. maybe that's just my strange-stan goggles being strapped on too tight, i'm willing to accept that, but every other thing tech does on social media is promoting his fellow labelmates, you can't be a tech fan without being fully aware of everything sm puts out.

The problem with that sort of promotion though Elision, in my opinion, is that unless you're a fan of Tech N9ne, you won't see it. It doesn't really give those artists a chance to expand their fanbase past what he gets them through social media. They don't establish their own name, they become just a Tech imprint, sort of like what happened to Obie in the early 2000s.

That's where it gets difficult I think. Strange, being indie, doesn't really have the resources to advertise these artists as individual artists rather than "Tech N9ne's buddies". There's really no easy solution to it, and Strange might be doing to best they're able to in their situation.

Unfortunately, that does hold some of the signees back who have higher potential like Krizz, even if it does give them a good start.
