Its like football, England (Rakim) technically invented it and made it fun, Brazil (Tupac) perfected it and gave it joy and emotion, and Italy (50 cent) didn't help improve the game at all and almost made it worse but still does good themselves! :b:

people say Rakim is a good rapper, but i disagree. He may be a good lyricist, but in my opinion, he's just a boring rapper and i can't really stand to listen to much of anything he's done. But i really like 2pac, was appealing and liked the lyrics. So 2pac for me.

Rakim might be better lyrically, but no one knows because his delivery puts people to sleep. He's boring, that's why Tupac is better. He captivates.

its like pulling the joker card, "tupac sucks coz out os his 100000000000000 songs he has 10 classics, or because his concepts or over done not by other but by himself and he repeats his material over and over again"

rakims delivery is fine, his style isnt being concious or evagerated and he only bores you if you got something wrong with enjoying the skills he is showing.

personelly when i listen to rakim my brain stays alert by trying to pick out his metaphors, his rhymes his wordplay not to mention his flow is so dope and easy his rhymes just go by you so you got to stay on your toes if you wanne catch the whole meaning of a verse.

i aint saying its great at party's but his lyrics make up for the monotone and he only bores if you let him bore you.

something doesn't have to be classic to be a good song.
And, i don't let Rakim bore me, he just does. It's just like, "All this pot won't make me high because i won't let it."
And, yes, Rakim does have that much influence on making me fall asleep...forever.

Seriously DB, even songs like R.A.K.I.M and Juice (Know the Ledge) do that to you? Personally I love Rakims seemingly effortless flow and delivery, but we all have different tastes. But i reckon Tupac has better meaningful concepts and Rakim has a better storytelliing ability. And Bar i see what you mean,, Tupac has about 5 constantly relistenable and timeless songs but every Rakim verse is relistenable because its like a challenge (a good one) to see if you can pick up on all the metaphors and multies.

i'm just saying, that may be a challenge if you can stand listening long enough to pick that up. But considering how boring he is to me, i can't.

I agree except for that part where Rakim's delivery puts me to sleep... He's better than Pac lyrically, but overall Pac is a better rapper. Rakim is the best rapper alive, and arguably the best of all time. And Pac has more classics than rappers these days have dance songs.

That doesn't change the fact that he can put me to sleep when I'm tired. It's just how his delivery is, when I'm the right state of mind for him, I can really enjoy his delivery, like at times when I just want to relax. He's got a cool calming voice, which isn't bad but it does have it's disadvantages like I said above.

Well I don't have to say who I prefer since that can be seen by my avatar and signature which haven't changed since I was new here pretty much.

I understand why people say Rakim makes them fall asleep. To tell you the truth, that doesn't happen to me but it does kinda bore me. That's why I only like a few songs of his. This doesn't mean that I think he's crap. His lyrics and more complex, more wise-like words and by what he says it seems like he's had a good education. Rakim's voice is not so catchy as 2Pac, or I might as well say the songs in whole. Some people might prefer to listen to Rakim, look for his metaphors, word play, puns, alliteration and words which aren't exactly gangsta but clever. For other people this might be a bit too heavy.

With 2Pac, I've spotted some of those things a few times but I go for his topics, emotion and attitude towards his music. If you think, 2Pac goes through a few different styles on his albums before his death. Political, hardcore-gangsta, hardcore-emotional-living a hard time, gangsta and happy, dark. Maybe those words aren't the right one but when I play his albums, I can tell his different styles, so I know from what era each are. 2Pac makes me have to rewind the song and understand what he means by this and that. He makes me want to listen to his lyrics cause they are quite easy-going.

This comparison is in a way a bit strange, both MCs are different. One of those differences is that Rakim is Old School so didn't know about 2Pac cause Pac wasn't around, and 2Pac likes Rakim and thinks he's great as he tributes him in his "Old School". I'd find it easier to compare two rappers who came out around the same era. e.g Nas or 2Pac

As my conclusion, I prefer 2Pac but I am aware that Rakim is lyrically the best.

There's some Rakim songs I can listen to while paying attention to it, like "It's The R", "Let the rhythm hit 'em" (my favourite) :worship: and "Real Shit"
But the other songs of his... I only listen to them when they appear in the playlist...

But I can listen to 2pac's anytime, anywhere..
