I like rap & rock equally, by rock i'm categorizing all it's subgenres (metal, alternative) under it. This whole "you can only like one genre & fuck everything else" is truly bullshit, you either like someones music or you don't but judging the entire genre because you don't like one act or think "i'm cool & cool guys only listen to rap" is fucking stupid. That's like judging the entire hip hop genre from a Gucci Mane song.

Now then i'll let dead prez & Satire keep arguing.

I mostly listen to rap, but it's out of lazyness and fear of comfort zone. I listened to a few Metallica songs if that counts for something.

In my opinion some people get lead into a belief that you have to "defend" or be on the side of one genre of music. You can see it just by going on YouTube, all these comments about "98% of teens have moved onto rap instead of rock", "RAP = Retards Attempting Poetry" etc. This is something most people grow out of, considering that these comments are the kind you paste on the Internet when you're like 13. However as we all know there's a lot of morons around so some no doubt keep this belief all through their life. This is a high school mentality that I myself was aware of when I was like 15, and I used to have beef with a lot of "rockers" (obviously back in high school cliques are much more defined) for being ignorant bastards. That said, I think the idea is absolutely stupid and only means you are missing out on stuff and being an ignorant retard.

I listen to all kinds of music. When I was growing up I actually never really listened to rap, it was more the pop scene and then when I became a bit older to begin choosing my own music, Eminem was the first to attract me but I also had a soft spot for Hot Fuss by the Killers, one of the only albums i've ever actually bought. Also as a kid I liked Linkin Park a lot; don't really like their new shit these days but the first two albums are always gonna be classic, as angst-ridden as they are. But i've always listened to a lot of stuff.

But in response to the topic, do I think hip hop's the best genre? While it's hard to be clear on the definition of "best", I certainly find it the most intriguing. Obviously since I make hip hop music myself it's obviously the genre I enjoy most and it's the most accessible. I wouldn't really call it the best to be honest cause a lot of stuff outside hip hop is very inventive and enjoyable for its own reasons. I think anyone who can so blindly say hip hop is better than all the stuff he clearly hasn't even listened to (no offence DA) is a close-minded idiot. Me personally I like to listen to other stuff to take a break, because listening to nothing but hip hop can get annoying.

And Prez, Katy Perry's an untalented bitch who rides through life by posing with her tits while people write her catchy songs for her. Fuck you for trying to defend her.

That wasn't concession, that was you being a dick.

.
The amount of homosexuality that emits from you when you listen to her actual music cancels out any attractiveness of her. Plus, have you seen her without make-up? Atrocious.

How does my sexual orientation take away from her attractiveness?

Oh and Katy Perry without makeup>>The girl in your avatar with makeup

You're a fag so why does it matter if you think she's attractive? That's like asking a metal-head if he thinks One Be Lo is dope.

Katy Perry looks straight out of Area 51 without make up. Fact.

No argument? Concession accepted again.

Look down

Okay?

None of this applies to me considering I just said that other genres can be just as lyrical.

Dead Prez defeated once again.

That's what I got out of your initial post

Because Hip-hop is more weighted towards lyricism than any other genre. Yes, any type of music can be lyrical, that's obvious. The best lyricist ever could be a country singer for all I care. But as a whole genre I am 100% sure you will get more "knowledge" out of reading sheets of underground/90's rap lyrics than you will reading sheets of anything else.

Don't you patronize me you cock sucking bitch, I said I was clueless of most music outside of Hip Hop, and do try to expand my horizons, not to mention a lot of it is mostly good natured joke posts. With that said go fuck Rainbow Dash in the ass and jerk off to more My Little Pony pics.

That said, how did I suggest anything about you expanding your horizons? I'm not commenting on whether you have a broad music taste, i'm just telling you why Katy Perry is a fucking bitch. Just saiyan.

Yes, I undertand that but to try and use that as an argument as to why it's the most "lyrical" is horse manure.

You insulted me for liking her and assumed that I only listen to her because of her looks, yes I know most people think she's poop. But to assume that I only listen to her for superficial reasons is a big insult.

Well yeah, I say that because that's the only reason anyone WOULD listen to her! That's the only thing she has to offer people. She's not talented, she doesn't write her songs and while her singing is okay, singing is something you can be taught to do so honestly she's no different than anyone else. It could be anyone singing her songs, she's nothing special, the only thing that makes her special to anyone is the status she has earned and the idolisation of her body that so many drooling men adore. Songwriting earns respect, but her music has no substance, it means nothing, it's made for purely superficial reasons. Katy Perry's entire career is built on people being superficial, it is no personal attack to you to declare that, it's just a fact.

And don't come and try and argue that Katy Perry's a deep poetic artist cause she isn't. You will truly sound like an idiot if you try that.

Yes.

Yes, I undertand that but to try and use that as an argument as to why it's the most "lyrical" is horse manure.

Lol how? It's not the best argument but when a genre this big is dedicated to lyrics chances are it will be the most lyrical. If a sport involves lifting, chances are that sport will require the most upper body training than other sports. It's geared for this. Alot of genres have great lyricists, but great lyricism is what this genre is.

It wouldn't be an argument if I was saying "We're geared towards lyrics, therefore we have the best lyricists", but no, we're talking about which genre is the most lyrical.

> Implying that's all underground/90's rappers talk about

Knowledge. By my definition (in terms of music), thought-provoking or emotional information conveyed through lyrics. All genres with lyrics have this, but Rap's format and structure allows it to be expressed easier. I'm saying if you take two lyric sheets from Rap and another genre, you will probably have to pay more attention to the rap sheet.

Or ignorance towards "better" music and general laziness, not to mention she's on the radio 24/7.

That's the only thing she has to offer people.

Well I'm not one of those people, and where did you ever get the deranged idea that I would only listen to someone because of their looks?
She's not talented, she doesn't write her songs and while her singing is okay, singing is something you can be taught to do so honestly she's no different than anyone else.

I had no idea she doesn't write her own shit, but idc really. It's not like I endorse her music or go out to store to actually buy it.
It could be anyone singing her songs, she's nothing special, the only thing that makes her special to anyone is the status she has earned and the idolisation of her body that so many drooling men adore.

Good thing I don't fill under that bill than.

I don't see what's everyone's overt boner for complexity is anyway, if it sounds good (to me anyway, yes I know you think it's trash) than I'll listen to it.

And don't come and try and argue that Katy Perry's a deep poetic artist cause she isn't. You will truly sound like an idiot if you try that.

I never argued this at all and am more than aware that there are other "better" artists out there, and realize she's nothing more than bargain bin pop, but to play ridiculous appeal to motives and assume that I'm one of those prepubescent teens is something I won't stand for.

I'm not saying you are! Omg lol if you enjoy vapid pop music then fine, be an idiot, but stop taking everything I say personal. You know full well that the reasons I listed are the reasons she's big, not her musical talent, that is my point. Not that that's the reason you are now a fan, although you wouldn't have heard of her were it not for the reasons I mentioned. I'm just saying it's the reason she's still around, because when all is said and done and she's gone, nobody will remember her past those few "romantic" Facebook statuses they used from her songs.

So after all this saving face of trying to dodge the fact that you weren't referring to "me" you decide to be deragatory again, good job.

Considering you just called me an idiot for listening to her music, of course I will.

Yeah erm I wasn't particularly referring to you. Just listing reasons why Katy Perry's shit.

Considering you just called me an idiot for listening to her music, of course I will.

Well yes take THAT personally, it was aimed at you! My God

And I know this no need

Then I fail to see how you can enjoy her music, unless you just listen to music randomly.
