Well, I think there's a distinction to be made for one...
I think there's 'hip-hop fans' who do like hip-hop but obsess over Eminem. But do know of other hip-hop, and appreciate the genre in a broader sense, and like hip-hop.
THEN, I think you have people who have a perception about hip-hop, or dislike it except for Eminem because... he makes catchier songs. Plain and simple - his songs have always been more melodic, take for example "Lose Yourself" or "Without Me".
They resonate outside of rap because they're very musical songs also.
But... I think the first group I mentioned is what you would call 'Stans'. The second group however... I don't think it's quite right to call them 'Stans' as those kinds of people usually know nothing about hip-hop at all, and don't claim to and quite proudly often dislike it and think it's shit.
I'm talking perhaps about some heavy rock fans, or pop fans etc. or even your mother or father who may generally hate hip-hop but then like some Eminem songs. But, you wouldn't call your mother or father an Eminem 'Stan' for that would you? lmao.
But all in all, the ones in the first group I mentioned should hardly be apologetic as, what rapper doesn't have 'that' group. What good rapper that is. Or what good artist period.
There is a reason that Eminem has especially obsessive fans you know. And it's not because he has white skin or acts cool. It's because he was at one point, totally untouchable in almost every aspect of rapping. He was the Jordan or hip-hop. Much in the same way you have Michael Jackson fans obsess over his every word and look.
It's natural for humans to obsess over and analyze the upper echelons of an field or art.
