the best will always change but the originator never will.

You sound like EminemBase with a concussion, WTF are you trying to say?

No, Swizz "I yell on all the shit I produce" Beatz is nowhere close to Dre or Ye, he ain't even hot right now.
Kanye hasn't done anything as influential? Dre brought gangsta rap to the forefront. Know who killed it? Kanye West with College Dropout.

 I thought G-Unit killed gangsta rap by making it so corny and ridiculous.

Well the perfect song that would justify your post is probably "Insane" from Relapse ,i know the subject matter is hated a lot but the beat is really dope and really smooth IMO.

If this thread was made a year ago I would have went with Dre without hesitation, but Kanye really set a benchmark for me on how I view production with MBDTF

I think Freespeech hit the nail on the head when he wrote "Dre makes beats, Kanye make music", it depends on what you're looking for: Dre has more head nodding, "banging" beats, whereas 'Ye's are more complex and rich...Dre is a better drum programmer, his basslines are unmatched by most and he always has his music mixed to perfection, whereas Kanye has stronger instrumental arrangments and has so many layers to his work, both have a sound which has a huge scope, (although that only really became present in 'Ye's work since 2005) and both have influenced the genre massively

This it's a really tough choice for me :zipped:

I'll go for Dre as of now for the simple fact that Chronic, Doggystyle, NWA's stuff, etc, still sounds fresh after 20 years, time will tell how Kanye's production will hold up (though I have no doubt it will)

I don't really dig Dr. Dre's drum programing that much anymore as they always seem to be very simple structured whereas Kanye West always make them real funky and fresh. Songs such as All of the lights Make Her Say are incredibly well programed and doesn't sound like much else if you ask me.

lol yeah kanye killed gangster rap, okay man, its that simple.

anyway, i already debated u (or malcom west) and killed u despite starting off 50 yards behind with my race generalisation comment. there is nothing to gain for me to have to do this again despite u having another account. i shall let this slip. u have to try much much better.

Why do people say dr. Dre doesn't make music, he makes loops? Loops happen to be music. And Kanye loops as well even though he will through in elements that change it up a little more

Dre slaps his names on beats that aren't his.

Kanye stands on the shoulders of giants and calls himself tall.
Please show me some of his "dope" beats without a sample being responsible for it.

All of the lights?

Actually I prefer beats with samples as it gives the music a bit of history and well, yeah, sampling is to me the musical spirit of hip hop. I love searching for the original tracks and figure out what kind of ideas that went through the producers heads when they made the beats... but I can see where you're coming from. Some beats seem like complete rip offs but there are plenty of others that are totally different.

Nas' Surviving the Times is basically just the same track with hip hop drums whereas Raekwon's Ice Cream is completely fresh and new.

I think Dre is the better HIP HOP producer, as in, beats that are best for raw rapping and have an infectious bounce or melody. Take something like "Forgot About Dre" - that beat is more potent and memorable than any HIP HOP beat Kanye has made, that I can think of.

BUT, I think Kanye is the better overall MUSIC producer who can do more, and has more depth and scope. I don't think Dre could think up something like, or produce something like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or even Graduation.

As crisp, loud and infectious as Dre is, he sticks within his world more where as Kanye can now pretty much produce for any genre and has merged elements from basically every genre to make new and innovative hip hop.

So, within hip hop, for hardcore rapping? Dre. Overall? Kanye.
