No i heard every Song on every Album from Hardnock Life to Can't Knock The Hustle to Big Pimpin to Meet The Parents. The fact is predominantly makority of his Songs are based on selling cocaine, money and wealth. It's not just the Subject Matter that is why those who don't like his Music it's also the fact that a lotta people find his better Albums like REasonable Doubt to be boring for example i can't listen to that Album or The Blueprint today at all cos i would get boring they haven't aged well to me for their to be replay value. Now i'm not saying they bad Albums they are his best Albums overall good but not classics or anything special to me.

*this is all directed to aftermathers.

Jay-Z is a great artist. The man managed to release eleven albums and all of them were stellar.

In fact, it's funny you mention "poor subject matter" because I could say the same for Eminem's Recovery, I could say the inconsistency and constant whining of how shitty Relapse is (even though it isn't) displays poor subject content and could have been worked on. I'll admit "Going Through Changes" IS a great song and without it, Recovery might not have done so well.

It's also funny how you mentioned Jay having poor lyricism when I can easily quote name and show you SIX examples of why Jay is praised so much for his wordplay:
name wrote:"I can run it back ***** cause I'm straight with the Roc"
-Triple entendre.

"52 cards come out when I'm through dealing"
-Double entendre, the song had 52 bars and it's named "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"

"Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did 5 mill' - I ain't been rhyming like Common since"
-Wordplay

"You can't kill me, I live forever through these bars"
-Double entendre

"Because one's four-five might blow yo' high
You ain't gotta go to church to get to know yo' God"

"I'm especially Joe Pesci wit it, friend
I will kill you, commit suicide, and kill you again"

His albums aren't "dull and boring", in fact his music is rather entertaining and at times I prefer to listen to him over Em.

I get the Common since one, but could someone explain the rest to me and how they're multiple entendres? I don't understand how the title being "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" relates to 52 bars nor how having 52 bars relates to 52 cards.

@ Blue i said i found them dull it's your opinion they not dull but to me they are very dull after hearing them they lacked any replay value to me be it Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint

I don't think Jay Z is anywhere near a a decent Artist simply cos of his 1 dimensional Subject Matter and lack of Introspective tracks as well as him relying on RnB Singers to do Hooks for him rather than be an actually true Artist like Eminem, Kid Cudi, ZRO etc who not only do their own Hooks but Sing. When Jay Z does do Hooks they are very bland and boring.

Jay Z's Music doesn't stand out he is no diffrent than all these other Coke Rappers.

Again i enjoyed the Subject Matter on Recovery it is an Album i can relate to when i listen to the Lyrics from Recovery i feel them personally i can connect with what he was saying and how well he expressed himself so to me the Subject Matter on REcovery was fantastic that is the type of Subject Matter i love hearing in Rap it is what i relate to but more importantly find enjoyable somply based on Substance and the way he expressed raw emotions.

Yes but not that badly. His last solo album was pretty bad to me.

dude with all my respect .. but once you become an ultimate stan of a rapper ( eminem in your case  that's the price = your ear can only see the negativity of other rappers .. especially the great ones because deep inside you feel like they threat your favorite rapper's position .. hip hop has alaways been about love and complementarity .. i dont agree with what u r saying about young hov
