Illmatic is the only influential album that Nas put out.... and it wasn't even as influential as albums like Enter the 36 Chambers or Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Wu-Tang influenced everyone from Nas to Biggie to Jay-Z.

After Illmatic and It Was Written, Nas's career has been filled with good to medicore albums. He's always been a great lyricist, but Eminem in his prime eats Nas imo. As good as Nas is, he's never been as original as Eminem. Nas is top 10, but I wouldn't even put him in my top 5. He gets way too much credit for shot other niggas did.

The point is that while Nas has some mediocre albums, he also has good albums mixed in with that and has been putting out solid music for almost 20 years. Eminem had a short lived prime and has been garbage for 10 years.

Pretty much (except that I consider Relapse to be a really solid album for Eminem's discography.. I also consider Untitled to be a strong Nas project, too).

Illmatic, God's Son, Stillmatic, I Am..., Untitled, Life Is Good, It Was Written. Those are all either classical or incredibly solid albums. And Eminem's entire discography is pretty much the same size as that list... with three (or four if you're like me and love Relapse) classical/stellar albums. I think Jigga and Nas have two of the stronger discographies out there, for sure. Now whether if that's how you define an artist's career or not is totally opinionated.

Aone praising Recovery? :flutter:

illmatic is hella influential, and probably more than OB4CL and Enter the 36 chambers, friggin G Rap deserves more credit than Raekwon and the Wu for making it cool for everyone to turn into Gambinos. Illmatic raised the bar when most niggas were rapping like either G rap/Daddy Kane/Rakim or had the G funk flow goin on. He had razor sharp lyrics but a smooth flow with internals, that pretty much revolutionized how everyone else started rapping. Only other rapper who could fuck with Nas skillwise at the time was probably Big L, even Az was almost a G rap clone (same for Pun) and his rhyming wasn't as tight as Nas' (he tended to drift).

Also Nas had a shit ton of good-great albums , other than illmatic pretty much every album can be made a case as his second best (barring I am, Nastradamus, Street's Disciples and even I am has some gems).

Nah Relapse is alright because he has a few moments of brilliance but there's too many terrible moments to outweigh it. Most of the album are shit songs about absolutely nothing and those stupid voices make it 10x worse. The flows and rhymes aren't even that good tbh. And everyone knows how I feel about Recovery. Eminem has had like 10 good verses max since 2004.

It doesn't matter how short his prime was (5 years isn't that short, 97-02). Nobody has come close to touching his best work.
